on offense
1.letting go Jimmy Graham after paying him.
2.letting go Darren sproles
3.letting go cooks.
4.Kenny stills.
The team had good chemistry on offense.

on defense
1.malcom Jenkins being let go.
2. letting junior Gallate go.
3.Akeem hicks being let go.

on the gm side of things.
1.Keeping coordinators way to long just because we won a superbowl.
2.overspending on free agents instead of paying our guys to stay.
3. not firing the scouting department, because we suck at drafting defense and free agent scouting.
4. adding running backs and drafting running backs, drafting backups qbs and backup receivers when we had pieces in place but ,let them go instead of paying them.
5. Every draft pick should of been defense untill issue was fix.
6. Every free agent signing should of been o linemen untill issue was fix.
7. Not hiring good proven coordinators and getting rid of steve spagnola way too soon. Especially given the bad circumstance he was given.
8.not getting a new head coach and staff after the bounty gate scenario.Coach Payton made us loose draft picks because of his oversight.

2.letting go Darren sproles

Agree 10000000%

3.letting go cooks.

He and MT13 were not going to coexist. That was obvious after the Rams game. He didn't want to be here. Bye.

4.Kenny stills.

Meh

quote:

1.malcom Jenkins being let go.

They didn't know how to use him properly anyway

quote:

2. letting junior Gallate go.

Are you serious

quote:

3.Akeem hicks being let go.

Free agent and they weren't going to franchise him

quote:

on the gm side of things.

Not commenting on everything you said, but the Saints got screwed on the cap because they tied down OUR players to ridiculous contracts, not the other way around.

They actually did a lot better to get rid of him after paying him because we got something back rather than let him walk in FA

Plus, he sucks

quote:

2.letting go Darren sproles

Fine, but he was disgruntled and old. Wouldn't have mattered by now.

3.letting go cooks.

Was not going to co-exist with the alpha that is Michael Thomas. I loved Cooks (especially pre-draft) for his speed and route running but he has disappointing physicality. Guy has to actually be open to make catches, he will rarely fight for a ball with a DB in proximity. Speed can be found elsewhere.

Still does.

For 1 & 3, literally everyone thought these dudes were bums, it's really easy to say this in hindsight just because they turned it around elsewhere. For 2, the mistake was NOT Letting him go, the mistake was signing him to that big deal without realizing he was a fricking psychopath.

drafting backups qbs

You lose every ounce of credibility with this statement, the Saints have drafted less QBs during the Payton era than any other team in the NFL. In the same period the Patriots have drafted seven QBs that never even saw a single snap and are no longer on the team.

5. Every draft pick should of been defense untill issue was fix.

Saints have leaned HEAVILY defense in the draft over the last five years, especially early, so IDK where you're going with this.

I 100% agree this team has made plenty of mistakes, but so does every team. If you want I can give you a list of stupid moves that the Patriots and Seahawks have made over the last few years that would look awfully similar to this list of "things that went wrong" that you made.

IMO the only super egregious mistake that the Saints made is not realizing they had problems in the scouting department & assistant coaches earlier. If we had addressed that years ago we could have had a jumpstart on actually developing players.... Look at what Nolan has done with the LBs already in a short time.

By not drafting good defensive players over the last 12 years. And not being able to coach the shitty ones they drafted.

When you miss on the draft as frequently as we have youre Cleveland. The only difference is we have Drew Brees

This is exactly what we are. Cleveland with Drew Brees.

We've fixed most of the problems that you listed, & some of them aren't even problems

quote:

1.Keeping coordinators way to long just because we won a superbowl.

Obviously, you're talking DC's. We've hired Rob Ryan & Dennis Allen since then. You can make a case that Allen isn't the guy for the job & that would be a legit complaint imo.

quote:

2.overspending on free agents instead of paying our guys to stay.

We overspent on free agents & overspent on our own players. It's been pretty good since Ireland has been here though.

quote:

3. not firing the scouting department, because we suck at drafting defense and free agent scouting.

We cleaned house with the scouting department. Your comment is inaccurate.

quote:

4. adding running backs and drafting running backs, drafting backups qbs and backup receivers when we had pieces in place but ,let them go instead of paying them.

Not really sure what to say to this. QB, RB, & WR are the least of our concerns. The contracts are also good value.

quote:

5. Every draft pick should of been defense untill issue was fix.

We've drafted a ton of defense.

quote:

6. Every free agent signing should of been o linemen untill issue was fix.

We traded for Unger, signed Warford, & used 2 1st round draft picks on the O-Line. We've invested plenty here.

quote:

7. Not hiring good proven coordinators and getting rid of steve spagnola way too soon. Especially given the bad circumstance he was given.

Not really sure what to say about Spagnola. You can make a case against Allen if you want.

quote:

8.not getting a new head coach and staff after the bounty gate scenario.Coach Payton made us loose draft picks because of his oversight.

Besides having Allen as our DC & the Fleener contract...I really don't see how someone could complain. I refuse to be on the 'fire CSP train' after just 1 game. Some people are all aboard it seems.

Pretty much spot on, I like our last draft and think 2016 draft was good. Years past I agree except a few picks here and there that were good. Our FAs overall have been a disaster except a few.

ETA: Ireland was our best pickup

We've had 3 years to build a defense with Brees and couldn't do it. Brees is our only chance. You free up that 20+ million and don't know if anything changes except we get worse. I'm a homer btw. Also I'm not giving up after one game, hell even if we lose Sunday but stay competitive I would still have hope we can finish after 4 games 2-2. We play pretty decent overall at Carolina.
