blues, my son is the biggest Saints fan in the world. He lives and breathes Saints in the heart of Falcons country.

My Saints fandom pales in comparison to his.

Still waiting to become one. I'm not a fan of anything from New Orleans. That place is nothing but trash and a joke.

1974 is when I can remember watching the Saints. For Christmas I got a Saints uniform and slept in it.

I'm guessing, from the Evangel helmet, that he's one of the ignorant, mis-guided Shreveporter's that like the Cowboys. Just to set the record straight, I'm from Shreveport also.

I had always "liked" the Saints, but I fell in love with them on December 24th, 1999. We were 2-12 going into that game and a friend of mine that worked for Hibernia got us some tickets. It was the first Saints game I had ever attended. The Cowboys were 7-7 and in desperate need of a win to make the playoffs. A QB wearing #9 making his first career start led the Saints on a 4th quarter comeback. The energy in the Dome that day, although it was only 2/3 full with half of that being Cowboys' fans, was so intoxicating I was hooked forever and I have not missed a home game since.

Any of you ancient fans ever subscribe to a Saints fan rag they had at the start? I don't remember the name. It was a weekly newsprint format. My walls were plastered with that stuff. (that and dayglo psychedelic posters)

Was that the old Saints Report or something similar?

no

this was before the intranets and satellite coverage. a print rag

I was a wanna be GM from a kid. I subscribed to that and the Sporting News from about age 10. I had several letters published in both criticizing trades and rosters moves before I could drive.

1992ish.....the year we went 12-4 and lost to the eagles in the first round of the playoffs. Think the first game I watched, we lost 21-20 to the 9ers with Montana. They had a come from behind win against us. How fitting.

I pretty much blamed myself for the playoff loss to the eagles. I shouldn't have moved that damn football at halftime.

In 2000. My dad is a huge Dallas fan him being from Texas and all. But my grandfather( mothers side ) has been a saints fan since the start. I'll never forget his words. " One day this team will win and your gonna want to be a part of that. " so I chose saints and boy was he right.

Finally, particular kudos to the lifers who made it through the Mecom era. Twenty years to get to the first winning season was a marathon many cannot even imagine. A lot of fans were washed out over that period. Those who endured the taunts and identification of "your Saints" then received a little extra joy when reaching the Lombardi this year

Damn right.

I would be a rich man today if I had a dollar for every time some other fan asked me, "why on earth are you a Saints fan"? Why don't you just pull for a winner like... (insert who ever's on top at the time).

It did make winning it all this year sweeter than all the rest combined.

And thanks again to Dave Dixon. The person more responsible than anyone that we are all here and celebrating greatness.

kudos for admitting it. I was at the first overtime game they played and lost to San Fran and went to lots of games as a kid

BUT

I wasn't a Saints fan until High School. That was when alot of the players like Hokie, Korte, Brock were living on the Northshore. Then I got invited by a friend to go to several games in the president of the Saints box. That was the begining for me. So say '82 '83

I'd say sometime in the early 90's when I used to call Buddy D's show and ask questions my dad would give me on the way back to BR from games

I was a Saints fan from birth, but I really started caring about and understanding my relationship wit the Saints when I was about 5. Of course the mid 80's were the first glory days. I loved the Dome Patrol, Dalton Hilliard, Eric Martin, Bobby Hebert, etc.

Even at such a young age, I knew that Carl Smith was a complete moron.

Saints were huge in my family. In the late 80's through the first half of th 90's my uncle had one of those old school satellite dishes. He would get all the blacked out games so we would go over there every sunday to watch. It was almost like every sunday was a mini thanksgiving. I became a season ticket holder around the 2002 season.
