I just wanted to know everybody's beef with him.

I didn't realize he was the Pats LB's coach:
2000-2003 New England Patriots LB's coach.
as a DC here is how he his defenses have finished:
2004 Oakland- 31st in points allowed, 30th in yards.
2005 Oakland- 25th in points, 27th in yards
2006 Oakland- 18th in points, 3rd in yards
2007 Oakland- 26th in points, 22nd in yards
2008 Oakland- 24th in points, 27th in yards
2009 Cleveland- 21st in points, 31st in yards
2010 Cleveland- 13th in points, 22nd in yards
2011 Dallas- 16th in points, 14th in yards
2012 Dallas- 24th in points, 19th in yards
I'm pretty indifferent about yards allowed myself. In today's NFL it almost seems like a lost cause, just my opinion.
With the high tempo offense we run, our defense seems like it is usually on the field a little more than what most teams are accustomed to. As long as we can be in the middle of the pack in scoring defense, I like our chances.

This isn't why I like him, but I think it would be very poetic if we took a DC who didn't work in Dallas and made him into a badass here.
We already did it with Payton. They'd be sweating if we did it again.

You could have done that under your normal account.

You forgot to say "I don't know who Chad is, but from what I can tell, he sounds like a smart guy."

I don't know this chad guy and I've never had an account on here before.

So, if you average those 9 years together, you get 22nd in points allowed.
Obviously, that's not a scientific metric; but it is still means something with a rather large sample size.
It should elicit a resounding "meh" if we're being generous.
I don't see the appeal...at all.

because all that zone worked out well.

Oh, so you liked last year's type of D better?
Swagger is what we lost last year. No one stepped up.
Please tell me what kind of D would you rather than a hype, confident (AKA "SWAG") defense.

Outside of the fact that he sucks, he's fine.

oh yeah, I won't be thrilled if we hire the guy either. I mean I'd rather let a new up and coming coach from the assistant ranks get a shot than someone with pedigrees like the guys we've had before.
but whatever.
I still think that the high tempo offense we run can put our defense in tough spots sometimes. But I wouldn't trade that for a stout defense and a lackluster offense, not in today's NFL.
That combined with underperforming first round draft picks on defense, it pisses you off sometimes.I just hope we bring in some good players in free agency. That is where we have had better results.

None of us know if he's going to be a bad hire or not. We're just gonna have to wait and see.
Posted on 2/6/13 at 12:26 pm to NolaMike93
To answer your question, he needs to cut his hair and have a gastric bypass. Now, did you want any input on him as a saints hire? Refine your question.

Hasnt been to the playoffs in 9 years!!

I think everyone else here understood what I was referring to.

I must be in the minority but I think by the Saints switching to the 3-4, the way Rob Ryan runs it fits that personnel the Saints have on defense pretty well. I think Ryan would be a good hire. Romeo Crennel would be the 3-4 version of Steve Spagnuolo.
