What are realistic and unrealistic expectations for Olave this season?

Do we think he can get into the Lamb-esque 1300 yard range? Or can he ascend into the 1500+ yard range and become a top-5 WR?

His metrics as a rookie were pretty high-end, but his projection does come with some flaws. He came in advertised as a bad YAC guy and that 100% showed up last year. If Thomas is in fact, back, that will limit Olave's total target number (and TD options). We are starting a new QB who had a crap year last year in a system he's never played in, with a shaky OC, so that is always a potential issue, too.

He had 72/1042/4 last year on 119 targets. Targets are hard to predict because while we have more weapons we have a lot better QB. I think a realistic expectation is 75/1100/5, and unrealistic high end is 85/1200/8 (would be top 10 in yards in 2022 with those stats).

He had more YAC/catch than DK Meltcalf, fwiw, but was still down the list.

Word is he looks a lot more physically developed than last year. I think those Lamb numbers are pretty good expectations.

I’m hoping MT13 being back can keep the lockdown corners off of Olave. If so I could see him having another nice year

Realistic:

Probably a little less catches/yards than last year or about the same.

Hopefully a lot more touchdowns.

Unrealistic:

Use you imagination

I think something like 75/1100/6 is a good over/under for him.

Finished the year with 210 YAC in a season he had Winston & Dalton throwing to him. Puts him 46th in total YAC, which was right behind Evans. Do you consider Evans to be a bad YAC guy?

Those numbers, or lack of, also includes those 2 plays where he had the open field and put the ball on the ground (left at least 70 yards there).

Not arguing that he'll be a great YAC guy when he hits his peak, just hard to say that last year would be any sort of validation of his ability to create YAC.

I think a few less targets but more yards, TD's and receptions in 23.

No matter how you slice it or spin it, 46th isn't very good. But I don't think he'll be that low this season.

One must consider things like receptions (volume) anDOT and air yards when analyzing YAC. The YAC crutch is already splintering for the detractors, they have nothing else to fall back on.

Olave would’ve been top 10 in WR yards if not for missing 6 quarters (his frail frame is a legit knock, looks bigger this off-season)

shite QB play and a dysfunctional offense did him no favors last season. Carr ain’t Drew Brees but his skill set is conducive to Olave. A healthy Thomas and Shaheed will only help

He will have a very productive year, I suspect.

I’ll just be happy if he put on 10 lbs of muscle. Supremely talented but he was just not strong enough last year. If he can put a little strength on his frame to go with his speed and fantastic route running skills he can be a true #1.
