We should try to trade up as much as we can in this draft.

It honestly use to drive me crazy, but I was thinking about our draft last year and how a lot of the guys couldn't even make it on the roster.

A lot of people bitched but the reality was our roster didn't have a ton of holes and there weren't a lot of spots to be had.

After this FA period it's going to become even worse.

A rookie might stick at what position?

WR, some OL, maybe safety or linebacker?

So screw it. Let's trade up and get an impact guy and roll.

True, to a certain degree, but they also made some highly questionable and Pre-Ireland-esque picks last year like Rick Leonard.

The Saints have not done well over the past few years in rounds 5-7.

I wouldn't be against trying to get a 4th round pick. Just get 2-3 quality guys you know can make the roster.

We really could of used Leonard working out. We need a reliable backup tackle.

If one of their first round graded guys is starting to drop towards the Saints pick at the bottom of the 2nd round you may get your wish. I imagine they are just looking for value in their picks this year. It seems few if any holes by the time the draft gets around.

sounds ok but typically we're continuing to give away next year's assets away. About to do it again w/ quinn.

Not particularly crazy about trading future picks in this case because I'd like to have those if Bridgewater does not pan out.

Honestly, there are not a lot of spaces on our roster for rookies. Just look at how many of our cuts last year were playing on NFL rosters. I am fine packaging later picks to move up and get guys that fill roster holes and will make the team.

One thing I can say for sure, the Saints won’t be waiting until selection 62 to make a pick.

I actually agree. We just don't have much roster room for low impact/ developing guys to make it. Package up the 6's and 7's, add them up to bump a 4 or bump our 2 up a few spots. Target 3-4 guys, go get them, and call it a day.

Don’t leverage future years though. Trade current year picks for current year picks. I’d rather 3 quality guys than 7-9 guys and only good enough as fill in types

I posted this in another thread. Assuming we acquire both Cook & Quinn...there won't be many roster spots available & they're all backup roles.

We kept all of our late round picks last year & were forced to cut them (besides Clapp) due to lack of roster space. As far as late round picks go..we seem to have room for RB, OL, LB, & DB. This can easily change if we add to these positions via F.A. though.

QB(3)
-Brees
-Bridgewater
-Taysom Hill

RB(3 or 4)
-Kamara
-Murray
-Washington
-???...Martez Carter is an option as well.

FB(1)
-Line

WR(5 or 6)
-Thomas
-Ginn
-Meredith
-Tre'Quan
-Kirkwood
-???...Dez for cheap would be ok imo. I doubt that a late round pick could take the #6 spot though.

TE(3)
-Cook
-Josh Hill
-Arnold or Garrett Griffin

OL(8, 9, or 10)
-Armstead
-Peat
-Easton
-Warford
-Ramczyk
-Tom
-???...Clapp will probably get a roster spot unless he isn't developing well.
-???
-???
-???

ST(3)
-Lutz
-Morstead
-Zach Wood

DT(3 or 4, to start the year)
-Malcolm Brown
-Stallworth
-Mario Edwards
-???...If we keep 4 DT's, the #4 will probably be released after Onyemata returns.
**Rankins probably starts the season on the PUP.
**Onyemata might not have to be on the initial 53 if he's suspended.

DE(4 or 5)
-Jordan
-Davenport
-Quinn
-Hendrickson
-???...I think we just keep 4 if these are the 4.

LB(5 or 6)
-Davis
-Anzalone
-Klein
-Robertson
-Biegel(ST)
-???

CB(6 or 7, b/c we need Hardee & Sherels for ST)
-Lattimore
-Apple
-PRob
-???...need a backup slot guy.
-???...need a backup outside CB. Maybe Crawley if he earns it.
-Hardee(ST)
-Sherels(ST-returner)

S(4 or 5)
-M. Williams
-Bell
-???...#3 Safety.
-Banjo(ST)
-???...Maybe JT Gray for ST.

Been saying this since January 20th. Get any player that can make this team even better, for this one season. Make the NFL pay and get Brees that second ring.

I'm actually shocked to find that I agree with this. For those of you concerned about burning future picks, I feel you, but the lack of any real holes in the current roster validates how the front office has been doing things and gives them the freedom to use those picks to win now. I'm good with it.

Exactly

If you feel the roster is pretty much set, you should be trading for additional picks next season. You will need the draft capital to possibly replace Brees, maybe a guy like Armstead, and for cap management purposes once we resign the guys on current rookie deals (namely Thomas, Lattimore, Kamara)

Dear God these three will bankrupt us. If we dont set aside some money in anticipation of this we might regret it. That being said, I'm all in for next season. We could probably consolidate our late round picks and grab a good backup on OL

I'm still upset we didnt take Derwin James last year when we traded up.

Not that I didnt like the Davenport pick it's just that I knew Derwin was gonna be a freak. I live in Tallahassee and saw him play a couple times in doak and he was such a playmaker, reminded me of a bigger tyrann mathieu.

It would've been a so nice to have him in black and gold as a hybrid safety/slot corner but we got davenport so we need to develop that man into the beast he can be asap.

I'm pretty confident that the Saints will pick twice in the second round this year. If Bridgewater doesnt pan out, we wont know that for at least 2 years, meaning we're not going to pick a QB in nexts years draft. Next years draft is less valuable to us than a title this year. The Saints at this point are all in on winning before Brees retires, and its the right move.

For a team like the Saints thats in win now mode, a bird in hand will always be greater than 2 in the bush; and thats the mindset they've used with both the trades for Kamara and Davenport.

Saints are rumored to have high grades on both AJ Brown and Hakeem Butler, and if either of those guys falls out of the first round I think they'll go get them.

Forgot Ram too. Those far are pacing to be paid top 5 at your position kinda money

Then you have Rankins, Apple, Marcus Williams, Bell, Ony,

Cant keep em all even if you wanted to

A thing to keep in mind tho when talking about mortgaging future picks, nearly every player on this list could fetch at the very least a 2nd round pick, with maybe the exception of Apple and Bell.
