The falcons turned down his monetary demands, did we do the same or did he skip us and just went to the browns?

Yes, but Cleveland gave Watson basically 400 million guaranteed.

i think its clear at this point we werent, we met every ask they had and it still wasnt enough

watson used us and the falcons to force carolina and browns to agree to that ridiculous contract he got

the brows were the only team stupid enough to do it

We were his best chance to win a Super Bowl, but when someone guarantees you a quarter of a billion dollars it’s pretty tough to say no.

If we'd guaranteed him 231 million, I think he'd be a Saint.

No way the Saints could have paid that. Whatever offer we gave was significantly less. In the end it was all about money. The winning part was just a bullshite cliche everyone uses.

Nobody was talking about it, but apparently what was going on behind the scenes were serious negotiations on Watson's new deal. The Saints, and ultimately the Falcons were only willing to go so far.

I suspect that the Falcons took the lead because they were willing to give a better contract...and the Browns jumped back in when they offered the insane deal they did.

I've said it over and over again. Watson was in total control here.

The Texans still had to agree with the picks & players they would be receiving. The contract & $$ was all Watson & his agent.

Yep.

They only got 3 firsts and a 3rd after all that.

Chick on NFL Network just said Watson reached back out to the Browns bc he thought the Browns had the “Most complete roster” of any of the teams for winning now.

WTF?

Sounds to me like he ultimately wanted to go to Atlanta but Cleveland threw a deal and him no one could turn down.

I think he wanted to go to atlanta but knew it was a losing proposition for several years there. I think he liked our roster and had some questions/reservations about our new coaching staff. In the end, Cleveland offered more money after theyMessed things up with Baker and in the end Watson went with more money.

C’est la vie

Watson was never coming here. Used the Saints and Falcons as leverage to get his money up.
