A buddy of mine has been friends with Bill Johnson since childhood. He said Bill told him one of the reasons Payton has never wanted to leave (besides the great pay) is he has always appreciated the fans support during “bounty gate” according to BIll Johnson, Payton mentioned quite a few times over the years. I’ll never forget seeing a former player sports analyst talking about no other fanbase supports their team like Saints and Packers, all the people on the panel agreed, I wanna say it was Chris Carter.

Even after 49ers game, and this game, the fan support has been strong. Yea a bunch of folks from all across the country, that probably weren’t Saints fans, made some bad remarks on social media last night to MW, and many posters who have never posted on Saints Talk before came on here starting stuff. But, it is a good feeling, through even good times and tough, people on here, guys I know irl, the fandom doesn’t waver.

We got us a SB, something I assumed would never happen before I grew old and died. We have a rookie that stood tall and faced the press after a critical frick up, teammates who stood behind him even after that play. We got a QB who has proven to still “have it” and can get it done when needed. I saw a packed dome back when we couldn’t win 5-6 games, NFL players realize all this, I’m sure many respect that. It has always, even in the bad years, been a great time to be a Saints fan, I can’t wait till next year.

ETA: And yes, last night was brutal, not making light of it. It was a big blow

We have a winning franchise in the National Football League. We have a League Championship. We have a Conference Championship. We have a few Division Championships, one from this season.

We have a great head coach and a good coaching staff. We are on the right track WRT scouting player personnel talent.

We have a first-ballot HoF QB.

I'm very thankful.

In closing, I'd like to say that I wish the Vikes the best, but, I doubt that this is their year to win the SB. Sadly for them, they are probably going to continue to have no Lombardi trophy, which is a shame because they are a fine NFL franchise.

There were hundreds at the airport last night to welcome the team home, many holding signs encouraging Marcus Williams. Only other fan bases in the NFL that would do this is GB and Buffalo.

Yep, pretty sure Colts had something like 8 fans or something like that greet them after their SB loss. Falcons situation from what I heard wasn’t much better.

I bet 99.99% of the people who are hating on Williams were in full "trade Brees", "Blow it all up", "the game is over", "We suck" mode....etc at halftime....

The best part, our D showed promise of being very good. That can actually attract quality defensive players.

They can’t handle crunch time in games.

Williams and the other young guys are going to wreck shite next year. This team is still going to be talented.

I have a lot of respect to them also, pretty strong fanbase, given the circumstances.

We swept Carolina
Could have beaten Atlanta twice
And Tampa is dogshit with a headcase at QB

Honestly don't know why some of y'all are so scared. The future is bright

Bc that’s the type of play that can break a franchise

The Saints under Payton have responded well after stuff like that. After the Lynch run we had 2011 which was probably the best Saints team ever. After Vernon Davis we had bountygate and had no Payton all year, but Brees held the rope and we stayed middle of the pack, and then followed it up next season with a road playoff win, falling to the Seahawks in a competitive game on the road.

Past few years we've dealt with serious cap issues (large portion of the cap being dead money), bad free agent signings and lackluster drafts. With Ireland here though we've slowly turned the corner and had our best draft maybe ever other than 2006 and have a young core of dudes to help with the cap situation and still produce like hell. It was a gut wrenching loss but the franchise as a whole is moving in the right direction again after a few year hiccup. I'm encouraged.

That's what they said about Atlanta and they were right back in the playoffs a year later. I refuse to believe the Falcons are a tougher more resilient franchise than the Saints

Thanks.

I forgot one thought: Let's take a look at that Saints injury list. There's a lot of great NFL talent on there. Keep in mind that on top of everything else this franchise has going for it, the guys on that list will all be healthy again for next season.

I checked into TD 5 minutes into the game out of curiosity and just as expected. Every thread was a negative one from “this game is over” to “ this team sucks”. Very very few positive threads or analytical ones talking x’s and o’s. Seems like no one has seen a comeback before and gave up hope before the first quarter was over. And to no ones surprise, those posters starting threads all had some variation of lsu or tiger in their name.
