Hey, I hated reading Fox in Socks to my daughter. I don't care who you are, "try saying that 5 times faster".

Players and Coaches whom are perceived as unintelligent are not valued on the locker room of any football team at any level.

I'll bet that football players at all levels are taught that you cannot be stupid and be a great football player.

Is that funny because you're a writer?

It's funny getting a mental image of Jones holding a gun to a players head while they stumble through "Green Eggs and Ham."

Relax, my friend.

There are few positions that are pure instinct anymore

im assuming i should read this as "pure instinct still"? instead of anymore

Yes, as a football player I found it offensive

of course you do, as expected.

quote:

You just get tired of hearing the same repetitive statement about football players being dumb, this isn't football in the 80s where linebackers just filled their assigned gap

The modern NFL is very complicated;

I dont exactly equate being just football smart as being an intelligent person.

It's not a job for the common idiot.

for the most part its a job for an extremely gifted athlete, if you have brains thats just a bonus.

quote:

You could also be operating under the misconception that you stop learning after high school.

Plenty of college football players probably stop learning after high school. They take joke classes, dont even go to class half the time, have tutors do their work, etc. I worked at LSU and saw what classes the athletes would take and its laughable at best. Most dream of playing in the NFL. School is a bothersome.

quote:

You can also flip this around, to be able to play in college you need a high school education, so players in the NFL have at least a high school education

aka 12th grade

quote:

The NFL is also very unique in you are handed a lot of money in a short period of time (less now with the new CBA) and at a young age. Not many people at 20-22 are well-equipped at handling large sums of money. At that age you also have the misguided feeling that you are invincible - no one thinks their career could be ended with one play. So when they go out and blow their money on a $150,000 car, they obviously aren't thinking that money may be the last check they will get

Just sounds like an excuse for being stupid with your money.

And the divorce thing - it's hard for any marriage to survive a situation where a spouse has to travel a lot and work long hours. I don't care what profession it is, marriages don't fare well in that type of scenario.

The marriage thing just got put in because I copied and pasted from an article. Marriages dont fare well when the guy, who thinks he is on top of the world with all his fame and cash, decides to start banging whores and knocking them up on the road.

That was a major factor in my decision as well

Decision of what?

The average NFL linebacker scores a 19 on the wonderlic

A receptionist comes in at 21, a security guard at 17 and a janitor at 14

Running backs -14
Safeties - 19
Corners - 18
WR - 17

Just found it interesting

the test is designed for 20 to sync up to 100 IQ ie average, i believe
