Don't read the comments under the article. Context is something that most of their readers can't grasp. They think the headline means she pre-decided the outcome and is trying to find a legal basis to rule. It's maddening.
the irony is that they have all pre-decided that the Saints ran a pay to injure program, and they all have less evidence than the judge has...

I hope Vilma doesn't agree to a reduced suspension. I won't fault him if he does, I'm sure he wants to play. But if he agrees to a reduced suspension everyone will just say the Saints are guilty, so his name and the Saints will not be cleared.
Was listening to Houston sports talk and they were talking about when Andre Johnson should play in the preseason. One guy said week three, which is against the Saints. The other guy said do you really want to put him out there for the Saints to injure him? It was tongue in cheek, but it's still out there.

late to the party and don't want to bother my family for details. Can someone give me a quick run down of what's going on?

The Cliffs Notes are Judge thinks Vilma is right and Goodell is wrong but isn't willing to do anything about it until August 30th when the arbitration ruling that sided with the league is appealed. She hopes they'll settle it or the arbitration appeal will reverse it's ruling that Goodell had the jurisdiction to hand out the penalty rather than whoever handles on field discipline as outlined in the CBA.
Read the thread until the courtroom updates end. There really isn't much chatter in between and most posts are a series of short tweets so it reads quickly.

do you think the NFL will be eager to settle this out of court? or will they want to take this back to the courthouse?

I'm sure the league wants to settle but I don't think it matters. IMO Vilma is fighting as much for his name as his career and he probably won't settle unless the league is prepared to clear his name.

I would like to think, that after the way the judge just made her statement, they will work to settling it. She has seem to make it clear and even stated that she wants to rule in favor of Vilma and thinks RG was out of his jurisdiction. She's urging them to settle this or have arbitrator turn it over.
If this happens, she won't have to make the ruling and then have the NFL go to the 5th circuit and appeal her ruling. BY not making a ruling today she's actually helping Vilmas case. I know we are all tired of the waiting, just got to stick with it.
But it also wouldn't surprise me if the NFL says screw it, you can rule in Vilmas favor. We will just appeal it.

I agree. Unless they settle to remove his suspension completely, I think he'll keep fighting this.

: More good news for Vilma-judge believes that Vilma has shown irreparable harm. Key prong in getting injunctive relief.
If this same judge is the one that will hear Vilma's defamation of character suit, then She just gave us a hint as to which way she's leaning on that case too. If she already thinks Vilma was "irreparably harmed" by this sham than the NFL needs to settle everything now. If they do nothing they'll be losing both cases. The only way Goodell saves face now is if he reinstates everybody and tries the apology method. He's going down
