They get fired every year, is what it is. Another poster made a good comment about the players that didn't get to go to draft and now cannot do a pro day, that I completely understand.
From a the standpoint of GMs & coaches potentially getting fired, I don't really have any sympathy for them. It happens all the time. I've got more sympathy for the economy not and the city of Las Vegas not being able to host the draft and generate money. I'm more worried if they push the draft back then they'll talk about the "rookies not having time to acclimate to the playbook and such" and try to push back the season, which would again be a blow to cities' economies that greatly need money coming in. On average about what, 6 coaches & 3 GMs get fired a year? A handful of millionaires potentially losing their jobs is not worth the economic blow if they push everything back and that leads to pushing the season back

Rookie minicamp is getting pushed back anyway.

Scouts have already seen most of the players at the combine. Also with technology these days, make an individual pro day video and have online interviews.

Not a fan. Give the country something. Other general managers have said teams have about 95% scouting completed. Only concern of mine would be teams not getting to see personally the health on the players.

Yep. Someone was joking about making each round of the draft it’s own night. I think that’s actually a great idea for this year alone given the circumstances. He’s right in that everyone making these decisions is in the same room, has all the info at their fingertips, etc. give a day of prep to regroup and make your 1-2 big decisions/picks per day.

Yeah I don’t buy a big reason is “less time to scout”. That’s not enough of a reason at this stage in the game to delay everything. You’ve had all the way until the start of March that was practically BAU. It’s not the fans fault you didn’t do the rest of your studying until the night before the test. Figure it out.
I do fully buy the day of being hard as hell to make real time decisions with parts of your team all over though.

I don't see any reason why they cannot delay the draft. You wait until the 1st of July if you had to. It isn't like the old days before the rookie pool of money. Back then you had to deal with multiple players holding out and players and teams waiting to sign a player until they were slotted. Now with the rookie pool holdouts are nearly unheard of. Where you are drafted determines your contract, and hangups are on language and not money. I love watching the draft and with no sports on I cannot wait for it. But I also understand why teams want to delay and honestly it should be delayed.

I read the espn article.
Its like they cant teleconference or anything. Its amazing that small companies are able to function during this but a billion dollar football team cant determine 6 people to pick in a draft.

It's like people don't realize there was a time before television.

I feel like everyone is missing the boat on this one.
Loomis is saying it doesn’t do the process justice to have it without the proper preparation. One of the best GMs in the league is telling you that it delegitimizes the draft to have it as scheduled with everything going on. If that’s what he thinks, he’s almost certainly correct.
Just prepare yourselves guys. It’s not just going to be the draft. I’d bet money that the season is pushed back and/or shortened to a 12 game schedule as well.

any other year i'd say just do the draft online and move on. But, this year is Vegas. if there's a way to postpone it and have the full draft experience, i'm for it.

Commissioner threatens disciplinary action for any “public discussion” of decision to proceed with draft
quote:
Commissioner Roger Goodell’s Thursday night memo to all teams made it clear there’s no benefit to be obtained from publicly arguing for a delay in the draft. The memo also made it clear that there’s a very real downside.
quote:March 26, 2020, 10:05 PM EDT NBCsports
“The [Management Council Executive Committee] was also clear, and I share the Committee’s view, that public discussion of issues relating to the Draft serves no useful purpose and is grounds for disciplinary action,” Roger Goodell wrote to all teams in the memo, a copy of which was obtained by PFT.

That's pretty much out the window at this point. We should be happy with a normal season at this point which isn't very likely.

I was indifferent on this.
But now, frick Goodell. Let's cancel.

We need to have the draft. Loomis, Elway, etc are coming across as elitists and privileged. The entire planet is having to adapt and find ways to make things work in unusual times. There is plenty of film to evaluate talent. Mickey needs to back off if this “oh whoa with me shite.”

There are lots of people across this country from plumbers, singers, clerks and yes GM's fighting to be able to continue doing their jobs to the best of their ability.
Whatever they come up with the world will keep spinning.

Hmm in a thread where the commish of the NFL blatantly targets the Saints organization once again...we have posters defending his overall stance
Interesting times
I like any football fan want the draft to happen but if my GM says it isnt in our teams best interest based on the current landscape
Vs the commish of the NFL, the biggest POS who has tainted our first SB in the eyes of the general public, crucified my organization with penalties and suspensions unmatched by other team infractions of similar or worse nature, and probably called for the swallowed whistle in the NFCCG...
That guy can catch a bullet, get brutally raped like the guy in Pulp Fiction, chewed on a dog like the runaway in Django or die a thousand other Tarantino deaths
