It wasnt a fake punt. What makes it a punt? Taysom was back there...Is it automatically a fake punt if you are in an exaggerated shot gun?

It was a "punt formation", doesn't matter who is back there. Furthermore, Taysom in particular has played many many positions other than QB, so I wouldn't have been blown away to see the guy actually kick the ball if he didn't like what they were presented by opposing team for whatever they intended to happen.

You guys are like a 8yo trying to argue/rationalize with his mom on why he should be able to not clean his room. Maybe you will find the perfect way to word your argument so that you feel justified, but guess what; you're still cleaning your damn room.

They are in punt formation thus it is a punt.
Does the NFL rulebook have a good explanation of what a punt formation is?

I don't think our punter was on the field, and the ball was snapped to a quarterback, fwiw.

That's a good question actually. And I didn't realize Morestead wasn't on the field. I was so caught up in watching the replay of what happened at the point of the catch that I never noticed there was no punter.

Of course its a good rule. Otherwise, teams would throw up passes on fake punts all the time since that player is trying to block the gunner to begin with.

I don't think many are arguing PI, but holding. It was clear he was holding for 20-25 yards and it was blatant. There is no doubt that should have been called (as it is pretty consistently on actual punts).

If the saints were on defense somehow the refs would have called pass interference and holding just to make sure 1 penalty stuck.
