well NEED to replace and wanting to replace are slightly different shades of color. We COULD get by 1 more year with the same interior defensive rotation even if not overly ideal.

No, because the situation has a direct correlation to what we are ACTUALLY doing which is the opposite of what you are suggesting. We NEED and WANT to replace them which is exactly why we are taking defense #8 and not a RB/ WR.

Just because we could get by another year doesn't mean we don't need those replacements. The need does not change.

The goal is to continue to move forward and upgrade. If you ignore that glaring issue and have to replace 6+ starters the next season then good luck on a strong rebuild.

The only bigger need than replacing 5 defensive starters is the OL which will not be addressed in the draft.

So besides WR our entire draft should be defensive players in theory.

Yeah man. You’re smarter than every nfl scout. That has to be it.

You can go into a draft only thinking of one way...then the draft actually starts.

Got it. Upgrade 11 starters in 1 year still cap strapped. Cool. Game plan on.

It’s gonna be Poochie Brown, the RG from Utah Valley State.

Alontae- Blackmon

Blackmon has played corner before ? That’s a stretch. And he never stays healthy.

They used a high pick on Broughton, last year. I’m sure him and Sheppard will split. Godchaux is fine another year, just need to draft a run stuffer in the middle rounds to groom. Theres a few they could get in the 4th round.

Riley and Kool-Aid were our boundary corners last year

Argue all you want but almost every single draft pundit has noted there’s a steep drop off after Love. Even Underhill admitted it.

Why would either one be melt worthy?

I don’t think so either. I think it’s always been:

Downs
Styles
Bain
Delane

I just don’t want a safety with the 8th overall pick.

Meh. There’s not a lot of elite players in this draft. Downs is one of them. We have quite a shortage of those

He’s played nickel before. And he’s pretty decent at it. I think part of the allure of adding Downs is the interchangeability of him, Blackmon and Sanker. All 3 would be capable of playing nickel, SS or FS.

By that line of thinking you can draft 3 mid round guys of different skill sets over a few years for less than what you’re paying one mid tier 2nd contract guy.
Except with the draft it's a crapshoot and you don't know how good they will actually be at the nfl level, whereas signing FAs you have a pretty damn good idea of where guys are and if they can improve and possibly how much.

Etienne would be cool if he doesn't cost too much. He had a bounce back year this past year
