The sooner you accept the fact that you are already dead, you can live

I was more in the "we are going to win 8 games and barely miss the playoffs again" crowd to start the offseason and I'm moving towards the "we may win 4-5 games" status.

EXACTLY how I have felt. With current OL & injuries, I feel like we win 4-6 games.

As long-term fans, isn't this what we should want for the next few years? As long as they are also cleaning up the dead weight, void years & bloated contracts

Sure, without Derek Carr and all the restructures.

Even if we're bad, Mickey and co. just re-structured Carr to make cutting him next year almost impossible. Odds are they spin it as a Dennis Allen and bad luck problem and try again in 2025.

Also, if we're going to be bad, we need to start trading guys who have value and won't hurt our cap Alontae Taylor, Paulson Adebo, etc., but we just re-signed Werner to an above-market deal.

You realize we still have to field a team, right? If the Saints can sign a good player for what they are worth, they should always do it, even if rebuilding. Don't trade draft picks. Don't overpay a big FA to make a splash. Don't defer too much money to future years. But even a rebuilding team needs a nucleus of good players when it's finally time to start spending money. It takes years to build up a good roster, even with all the cap space in the world (look at every expansion team ever).

Only if Loomis' departure is part of "cleaning up the dead weight."

This is necessary to finally start the “healing” process.

We need an absolute hard reset.

It takes a couple of painful years to do that.

If we dealt Taylor AND Adebo, we still have Latt/Koolaid

In a baseline scenario/vacuum (whatever metaphor you want to use), this is correct. However, we're living on refinancing old credit card debt every year and adding new long-term debt. We can't deal with our debt and sign these guys, too. To sign them, we'll have to kick can and it defeats the purpose.
