I think he knows something if he’s tweeting about it. Basically Ryan Nielsen and Kris Richard (both solid choices) would be named co-DCs since Allen would still be assuming ownership of the defense.

I’m not sure where it’s ever worked but I also think the defense will be just fine so long as we can re-sign Williams and Turner/Davenport can remain healthy.

Allen is still calling the defense. This is just a way to give two guys a raise and a promotion in title, even though they aren’t doing anything different.

It would be more of a pgc and rgc.
It's smart and it keeps both guys here and engaged

Normally I wouldn't want co-DC, but I'm ok with this. Allen is technically still the DC. Just like CSP was basically the OC.

The same structure as last year...

Allen at the top & has the final say. Nielsen & Kris Richard have more input than Michael Hodges. Nothing really changed drastically.

He's not indecisive at all. He's decided he's going to call the defense and mentor two young coaches if this is the case.

That means you don't really have a DC. Will be a disaster. Just fricking hire someone to coordinate the defense.

Dennis Allen has the reigns. Its best not to lose Nielsen or Richard if we don't have to. It's a decent temporary solution until DA can fully trust someone or can't handle the full roles of HC and DC'ing.

You want Richard with a coordinator title, so you gain the comp pick when he leaves.

It's a weird situation because Allen said he's still going to call the defense. So if I'm a coach looking to run my own show and defense, then I'm not coming to the Saints. Internal promotion makes sense here.

Where Allen must hit it out the park is with the OC hire, and well I feel he went with the easier situation and not the best.

Do we only get one pick if he's a co-defensive coordinator?

This is my guess on why co DC's. Both are talented and qualified and its still Allens defense they will be running. By using a Co-DC title it keeps both coaches with the team without a mark on their resume'.

I think this is being considered to keep Richard and lets him maintain coaching reputation for career growth. Its likely a one year setup as next year Richard probably gets consideration for a DC role or the Saints have to give Nielsen the sole DC title to keep him.

Nielsen is the favored which I base on his decision to pass on other jobs and the saints giving him additional title to keep him. Nielsen also served as a Co-DC in college so he has experience in how that setup works.

This looks more and more like Les Miles and Ed Orgeron all the time! Saints are going to suck donkey dick pretty soon.

You guys are stupid and would not know the first thing about running a team. Allen is keeping almost everything in place which is exactly what he should do.
Even with the horrors we went thru with injuries, Ida, and on and on we were a few plays from making the playoffs. With Jamies coming back no doubt in my mind, Mike Thomas, some nice rookies, couple Vets we always get, we have a very good team.
If healthy and we keep Marcus we can beat anybody. The NFC is as wide open as ever and Dennis Allen will do great things next year.

So not only are we not hiring a black coach, we aren’t hiring a black coach TWICE
