What would it say about him if he did drop from Top 5 to 24?
What do the teams choosing 5 - 23 know or think that the Saints would not know or ignore?
By that theory, he would never get picked. At some point reward exceeds risk.

kid is going to have a great career

as far as fragile, the nfl of today has it to where you cant sneeze on a qb without 15 yds

if he fell out of the top 10 id pray we'd go get him

It’s probably fair to say he didn’t take education to seriously in HS and college.

The thing about Tua’s injuries are many of them are self inflicted because he holds onto the balk too long so he takes a lot of unnecessary hits, so I’m not sure I can chalk it up to just random bad luck

That's coachable though, and something he'll need to get used .

I mean, can it? What if that's just his decision making skills? You have no idea if that's coachable or not for him.

You quoted the wrong numbers. Those are Rosen’s numbers.

Here are Tua’s:
quote:

Beyond first read: -48.7%
Out of pocket: -63.6%
Adjusted platform: -35.2%
Move platform: -11.7%
Pressured: -22.4%
Into tight window: -2.1%

He holds the ball because his NFL OL allows him to, while his NFL WR's get open.

It's not a decision making problem.

It's a timing and protection thing. Most QBs coming into the NFL have to adjust to that. Game moves faster.

So you're just assuming Tua has the ability to adjust to NFL game speed with 75% of his lower body surgically repaired? How do you know it's not his decision making? The answer is you don't. That's why he's such a wildcard top tier pick. Tua has been really good on a team that has better talent than 95% of everyone they play. There were also times where he looked awful against better defenses. The post a few up shows you the stats. His numbers under pressure and out of the pocket are terrible.

That’s Jameis Winston level stupid

I keep seeing this but the guy was admitted into Stanford, had a 4.0 in high school, and was like a two time academic all ACC. Shitty person? Probably. Stupid? Not really

Jameis isn’t dumb. He’s just very weird/awkward.

Or if it’s Tua and his agent doing it. It’s hard for me to believe he’s that dumb.

% of uncatchably off-target throws targeting when an OPEN receiver 5-18 yards downfield in 2019:

Tua 4.3%
Hurts 5.0%
Burrow 5.1%
Love 14.1%
Herbert 18.1%

I think that is kind of what the article is speaking to. When things are perfect and the receiver is OPEN he's very accurate. Similar to Josh Rosen who had an even lower % in that category. It just that when things aren't "perfect" his numbers drop off significantly.

The talent level discrepancy of Bama vs. almost all of their opponents was VAST. Tua didn't have to go off script or make plays when things weren't "perfect" all that often. That's not going to be the case in the NFL. Particularity if he would be going to a "bad" team

That's not to say he still shouldn't be the second QB taken. I don't think any of the other guys, including Herbert, are particularly special. It's just that he may not be the all pro lock that many though he was heading into the draft

Imagine a world where arguing for drafting the consensus QB2 is considering being a contrarian.

You're thinking of Vince Young, who got a score in the single digits.
