Look at Carr's last 5 years vs the rest of the nfl. He's easily one of the best 10-12 qbs in the league. Now his season this year wasn't good, but I trust the larger sample more

If it was your last shot at being an nfl coach, would you roll with Dalton or a rookie over carr?

The compensation really isn’t the issue. It’s that he’s a 40 million dollar qb if you assume his contract, which you are obligated to. Unless the Raiders are eating some of the salary like the Texans did for us in the Roby trade.

40 million next year for Carr is completely insane…

He must know that is not going to happen. Period.
If they trade him it will be his call as to the team and it would include a restructured contract.

OK now compare what the raiders had vs. what the saints currently have. What's to say he doesn't have decreased productivity from here on out? Michael Thomas isn't touching a field again, Johnson at TE who has one or two flashes a year, AK might not be available due to legal issues or injury. That leaves what? Olave and undrafted rookie Shaheed? gadget player Taysom Hill?

A QB isn't going to make much difference. The team overall is stuck in limbo.

Like it or not (and I don't) we are giving them our 4 pick for Carr. This is being worked on as we speak and will be announced shortly. I am not sure if we have to throw in a player but I certainly hope not.

Starts confusing thread, then never posts again in said thread. 3 pages....

Which one of you use RazzleDazzle as an alter?

ETA, My bet is msstate7 ???

I've seen this a couple of times and I'm confused by it. We've been in cap hell every year since like 2011 and somehow he knows what he's doing with the cap... The only thing he knows is to borrow from future years to pay for current year. That clearly hasn't worked.

The mental gymnastics in this thread are fantastic

Y’all are tripping all over yourselves for a mediocre QB… I’d rather go 2-15 next year and help speed up the reboot/build than fight for dear life for some mediocrity

Y’all are absolutely foolish for wanting carr

That's not a viable option.

Coaches and the GM staff are vying for their jobs year to year. They won't go into a season thinking to get a top pick. They will mortgage the future for now, unless the Owner says otherwise (spoiler: she won't).

The day I create an alter to post something, I will swallow 200 Tylenol. I'm msstate7 on every sports board I post on. And I never post rumors as fact bc I have absolutely no sources

Coming from the guy that said “Payton is not going to Denver, that’s a fact.” Check your source

that would instantly give us the best roster in the NFC South

The roster has too much talent to go 2-15. We are better than the Texans/Bears were this year at almost every position. If we roll Dalton out there again we will still be in the 7-10 to 9-8 range which isn't good enough to get our franchise qb in the draft or make the playoffs so it's just a completely wasted season. With Carr you have a solid chance at winning the division. Once you get into the playoffs anything can happen. frick it, let's ride

people keep thinking we can just magically tank and get a top two or three pick next year. you're absolutely right on needing to try and win year to year.

i have three objections to carr. i don't want his contract because he isn't worth that kind of cap space. two, he isn't much better than the dalton/taysom combo. three, the '24 draft class is loaded at qb, even outside of the top two guys.

if we can trade our 115th pick or 148th pick AND get carr's cap hit down below 30mil, then i think getting carr would be a solid deal. ONLY if we can get him for a favorable contract.

josh daniels is like a grown up version of joe brady, he just rode a qbs coat tails. not an accident carr became an average qb overnight when daniels arrived in vegas, in spite of having more talent around him on offense (though their oline was below average at pass protection).

I agree with you here

But y’all have fought and dreamed about Carr for so long, it’s like y’all forgot just how pedestrian he is

I’d wager that more than half of the people arguing FOR Carr haven’t watched him play at all unless he plays the saints. He’s about as underwhelming and uninspiring as Dalton is…

It feels like we recently gave away a Mercedes that we never fully appreciated and are now shopping at a used Mazda lot, just looking for the one with the best paint job. Newsflash: it’s still gonna be a Mazda

The Raiders can re-work his deal and pay out bonus money that would make the cap number the Saints take in very manageable. Why would the Raiders do this? Well, they have to ultimately do it either way if they cut him. So why not do it and take on a relatively decent draft pick.

I can't speak for others but I didn't think about Carr at all until it was announced that the saints are a contender. Give me him over Jameis/Dalton any day of the week IF they can rework his contract.

Considering the Saints beat Carr and the Raiders 24-0 last year I would say you are wrong. If that was the only game people watched they sure as hell wouldn't want him

welcome to post Drew Brees. It took the Dolphins 20 years to find a QB after Marino and he's one hit away from his career ending. If you thought another Brees was going to just walk through the door I have some bad news for you.......

I’ve talked myself into Carr. Mainly because he’s better than Dalton at the vertical passing game. But yea overall Carr has been very underwhelming when I’ve watched him play.

Carr would be an excellent attempt at finding a QB. He provided stability to the Raiders at the QB position, which is no given. He has good leadership quality and pretty damn productive. Guys like Carr just do not become available very often.
