Carr would rather be traded to keep current contract. I think it's better than the one he'd get in FA.

But we cannot absorb his current contract. Even so, I am not sure the Saints would want to take on his contract which includes a full no-trade clause.

Derek Carr isn't going to advance the team any further than Dalton.

Yes, but then you run the risk of him liking someone more or someone paying him more money. If you take him on current deal, you get rid of that risk... you do assume risk though bc the deal is better for carr. Obviously I'm using a lot of assuming here

Are you assuming Carr does not know he has a no-trade clause? If he liked someone else or thought he could get more, why would he waive his no-trade just to accommodate the Saints and the Raiders?

Bc his current contract will almost certainly surpass a FA contract. He will do it for money

ETA... I could be wrong about this. When you restructure a contract does the guaranteed money change or just how/when you get it?

Carr comes in next season and is the best QB in the division next year, unless Atlanta pulls off a Lamar Jackson signing (which is highly doubtful). Realistically, you will be looking at it as Carr vs Ridder/Journeyman, Darnold/Rookie or Trask/Journeyman.

Carr comes in next season and is arguably a top 4 QB in the NFC (assuming Rodgers bolts to the AFC) behind Hurts, Prescott and maybe Cousins. Looking at our schedule, the Saints would have a QB advantage in every game we play except Minnesota or Jacksonville, with games against the Giants, Rams, and Lions at worst being a draw.

The NFC is absolutely wide open and a guy like Carr with our defense would make us a contender.

Like it or not (and I don't) we are giving them our 4 pick for Carr. This is being worked on as we speak and will be announced shortly. I am not sure if we have to throw in a player but I certainly hope not.

I hope you are right.

If we trade for Carr and then draft DL R1 we are immediately favorites to win the division if no one else upgrades at QB

At most I’d offer a 5. If they don’t like it, they can kick rocks. He’s gone either way it goes.

Difference in a 4th/5th is not worth losing him to someone like the Jets who can offer a lot bigger contract if they strike out on Rodgers.

NFL Rumors: Raiders may receive an unexpected trade offer for Derek Carr

LINK

^^^
..."The Raiders are running out of time with Derek Carr. They must select a good landing spot for him before February 15 or he willl be cut and Las Vegas would not get anything for him.

But now, they may receive an unexpected offer for their quarterback this week.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the New Orleans Saints are interested in Derek Carr and are set to make a move for him this week. It is uncertain what are the Raiders asking for his quarterback, but the NFC South team seems to have what they are looking for in order to sign him...."

A veteran starting QB for a 4th round pick? What's not to like?

I've come to terms that the Saints will be in salary cap hell for at least the rest of my time on this Earth, so I'm not looking at this trade from a financial standpoint.

I should do the same If they make this trade for Carr it will be the same can down the same road by Loomis and DA for years to come. GM job protection 101.

But you said a reason to trade for him is to ensure another team does not outbid us. This contradicts that thought a bit. We should know for sure in about a week.

Are we expecting to lose some people this year? Just asking not trolling.

They will get a top 3-5 QB in the NFC depending on where other QB's end up. Take your hissy fit elsewhere

The mental gymnastics in this thread are fantastic

Y’all are tripping all over yourselves for a mediocre QB… I’d rather go 2-15 next year and help speed up the reboot/build than fight for dear life for some mediocrity

Y’all are absolutely foolish for wanting carr

Desperate people make stupid choices in life. That’s where we are with him right now. There’s no tomorrow for him.

Even when you could wait a week and get him for nothing? Carr choses where he goes. Why give the Raiders anything unless they restructure and absorb a significant amount of cap (which I doubt).

Unless his agent is reaching out under the table, he doesn’t really know his market. So you will be risking a team putting some ridiculous contract on the table if he reaches free agency. If you believe in him, trading a 4th isn’t some terrible deal.
