Was the reason this team was competitive ,he was willing to hold people accountable.Gayle is not a business minded person she’s a check signer and friends with management ,that’s a bad dinamic.Their is no fear of failure with Mickey and Gayle’s relationship,With TB their was.

Tom Benson (would’ve had the Saints in San Antonio) kept Jim Haslett around for six seasons and was a vegetable for much of the Payton/Brees golden era.

There is no fear because they’re all playing with house money. Tom was very hard nosed until his sharp decline and then Mickey and Dennis kept showing him articles from the 2009 Times Picayune.

Let’s be honest, Gayle doesn’t care whether the team wins 14 games or 4. Never has.

Gayle cares about keeping up her socialite appearance. Always has. She’s never going to see the books because she couldn’t even keep herself afloat in an interior design business. Tom had to payoff the 18 civil charges she was facing.

Some of the nostalgia here is something. Benson ran back the 2000 team for FIVE years. The latest you could say it was kind of working was 2002. He got lucky with Payton.

Paul Tagliabeau stepped in and made that decision. That said though, he failed to put a consistent product in the field to encourage the fans.
But at least he would cut bait on a loser. Mickey is a loser but we will never be rid of him.

Benson bought the team in 85. He was the owner for 20+ years before he held the state of Louisiana by the balls to keep them here and agree to tens if not hundreds of millions in financial commitments.
He hit the absolute gold mine when he hired the QB coach from the cowboys and picked a free agent QB fresh off a shoulder surgery.
Benson was lucky. The franchise sucked before and since that run of luck.

This is some “tell me you haven’t been a Saints fan very long without telling me you haven’t been a Saints fan very long” shite if I’ve ever seen it
Benson loved his money and nothing else. He refused to pay players who performed like Swilling and Quinn Early and hired bean counters to be his GM. He extorted the State for money every chance he got and he wanted to move the Saints to San Antonio after Katrina. Paul Tagliabue should have a statue outside the dome, not Tom Benson.

Is this serious?

Just wait until the Archdiocese of New Orleans owns the team. Goodell is spineless, so the Saints will be sold by the Catholic Church to a whacko NGO executive.
