Campbell was in twighlight of his career after injuries derailed it and Bum brought him in.He did nothing for us. I feel AP is a terrible sign by the Saints.

The good thing is we did not give up a 1st rounder for him like Bum did for Campbell.

Probably Saints have been terrible at signing veteran players at the end of their career in recent years

You seem very intelligent. Please give us a breakdown of how this negatively effects us and their Cap.

I'll wait....

Don't understand the down side of this deal. It's basically a one year contract and not very expensive. I don't think anyone is expecting Peterson to carry the ball 20 times a game. Really can't figure out what the negatives are.

Even if he did, he's not going to carry it 20 times every game, this just allows them to ride the hot hand.

As long as AP runs it 10-15 times a game then he will remain healthy and effective

This is our production of our #2 RB going back to 2009:
2016 133 carries 4.1 avg
2015 96 carries 3.9 avg
2014 76 carries 4.8 avg
2013 78 carries 4.9 avg
2012 105 carries 4.5 avg
2011 110 carries 5.1 avg
2010 83 carries 3.2 avg
2009 PT 147 carries 5.4 avg; Bell 172 carries 3.8 avg

Certainly its not an unreasonable task to foresee AP stepping up and giving this team anywhere from 95-150 carries relieving/competing with Ingram. Really we can be talking about 6-10 carries a game at most if Ingram is retaining is No.1 spot.

Exactly. Anything above the #2 back production that we've seen in the past seasons is a win. They didn't give up anything to get him. That's why I can't figure out why people would not like this signing.

Not like it's going to hurt Saints much. It's not exactly a risky move. They can just part ways with him after this season if they don't like him. I think it's a great signing personally. If he's 50% of old AP then he's better than anything we have in our backfield.

Why is it terrible? What is the risk?

His cap liability is 2%. It won't impact us much at all if he's cut.

Now what if he's asking like 2015 Peterson behind this offensive line and with Brees?

So the sky is falling because we signed a backup running back for essentially a one year deal?

Good Lord! People are acting like the Saints just broke the bank signing Peterson to lucrative, long term contract that's going to put them in a hole for years to come. It's basically a one year deal with a relatively small financial commitment for a guy who led the NFL in rushing just two seasons ago to be the Saints 2nd RB. They aren't bringing him in to be a full time starter getting 300+ carries.

If he does "nothing" it's really not a big financial hit. However, if he gives you even half the production of 2015 that's ~750 yards and 6 TDs. For a #2 RB that's not a bad year
