Who’s never been more than a special teams coach”

Loomis when he hires Rizzi because he’s lazy and will not perform a search.

There have also been some great coaches who were terrible at their first job like Allen. It’s rare. Not the norm. It would be a lazy hire.

Ignoring the positions coaches, these guys were all ST coaches at one point.

John Harbaugh did ST -> HC
Bill Belichick did ST - > DC -> HC
Mike Smith did ST -> DC -> HC
Bill Cowher did ST -> DC -> HC
Chuck Pagano did ST -> DC -> HC
Ken Whisenhunt did ST -> OC -> HC

Rhode Island went 3-9.

Only special teams in nfl.

Harbaugh coached running backs linebackers special teams and DBs. Practically everyone.

Interim coaches rarely get a full time gig. When they do, it never pans out. Saints need new blood and no leftovers

I tend to agree, I don't think he's the guy.

However look at our remaining schedule (7 games)
vs Cleveland - rather even, but edge to us due to home
vs LA Rams - edge to LA Rams
@ NY Giants - rather even, but edge to Giants due to away game for us
vs Washington - we're worse, period
@ Green Bay - we're worse, period
vs Las Vegas - we're better
@ Tampa Bay - they're better and at home

We will be favored in MAYBE 2 games (Cleveland, LV). But if he somehow goes 5-2 this stretch (assuming losses to Washington & GB), you gotta think maybe he is a good enough head coach to lead guys.

It’s win/win if we hire Rizzi

He will either turn us a around or will fail and we will accumulate more picks and talent

Thus attracting a top coach to want to come here bc we have picks and players.

It’s just gonna take more time unfortunately.

This guy has Dan Campbell energy.

quote:

On February 1, 2019, Rizzi was hired by the New Orleans Saints as their special teams coordinator under head coach Sean Payton. Rizzi would be reunited with Saints assistant head coach and tight ends coach Dan Campbell, who coached alongside Rizzi with the Miami Dolphins from 2010 to 2015, under head coaches Tony Sparano and Joe Philbin.[6] On February 23, 2022, it was announced that Rizzi would be assuming the title of assistant head coach alongside his special teams responsibilities under head coach Dennis Allen.[7]
