re: The signing of Peat

I don't think he is mediocre just doesn't have the consistency you want in a front line player.
He can play lights out I've seen it.
But games like vs minnesota makes you want him cut.
For the money they paid him let's hope he learns.

Nothing says “get your shite together” like 33 million guaranteed.
They rewarded him bigly for playing like garbage for 2 years.

are you on frickin drugs?
according to what you just said, that means he signed with the saints when he was just 21 years old

There is no scenario where extending Peat would’ve made more financial sense than him playing the 5th year option
Posted on 3/22/20 at 5:03 pm to GynoSandberg
How much was the fifth year option worth?
Wasn't it a guaranteed 9.6
Wasn't it a guaranteed 9.6

I thought it was more than 9.6 I thought it was closer to 12
Posted on 3/22/20 at 5:06 pm to GynoSandberg
And yes it does make sense to give it to him a year early
Then you can pay him a little less for giving him the contract a year early
It happens all the time
The point I was making was usually you would try and work out a contract so you can knock that 9.6 figure down, if you are going to keep the player

He has shown it. At two positions. Just not in the last two seasons which coincidentally aligned with injury plagued campaigns. He hasn’t been the same since breaking his arm against Carolina in the playoffs
WhT are you drinking today?

it happens but with teams with a lot of cap flexibility
We were like 4th in the league in dead money at the time. Getting out from under that was important. Flexibility was paramount with other more important deals coming up along with signing free agents. We could not get into bed with Peat long term at that time. And they had really made a push to keep Kelemete, they only picked up Peats 5th year shortly after kelemete signed w Houston.

This doesn’t really give me a huge vote in confidence in him that he hasn’t played the same since breaking his arm two years ago. All more the reason on why he was grossly overpaid.

He's not good. He's the reason we lose playoff games and he's one of the most injury prone players on the team. It's a terrible signing no matter how you slice it. Anyone with eyes could see Peat was overwhelmed against Vikings except Payton. As soon as he got hurt the production of the offense went up in that game and when he came back in, of course it went to complete shite.
This is one of their worst signings in recent memory when you consider the money he got. If they got him at a bargain...sure but they didn't.

I can see why fans have no confidence in him
I can also reason why they brought him back.
Everyone can have an opinion but he has a lot of time to prove whether it will be worth it or not. I’ll wait to judge the deal considering his past

Who was the lineman that kept getting drove into the backfield in the Rams playoff game? I swear I want to mention Peat but I can't remember if he was hurt for that game or not. I just remember similar to the Vikings game Rams kicked our shite in on the line.

If I remember correctly, Max unger and Peat were the two lowest graded OLs in the 2018 postseason per PFF. Armstead was just getting back from injury, Josh hill got hurt that game and he was playing 70% of snaps as essentially an extra OT. Bad beat all around

Andrus Peat got a $13 million signing bonus.
Base salaries:
2020: $1 million (fully guaranteed)
2021: $9 million (fully guaranteed)
2022: $10.85 million (gtd for injury, fully on third day of 21 league year)
2023: $11.825 million
2024: $11.825 million
Cap hits
2020: $3.6 million
2021: $11.6 million
2022: $13.45 million
2023: $14.425 million
2024: $14.425 million
Let me fix this:
Analysis
They can walk away after the 2022 season and save $9.225 million ($5.2 million in dead money).
Peat is probably on the team for at least THREE years since that his money for 2022 becomes fully guaranteed in 2021.

that's about right.
they were more physical in that game.
Suh was lining up in different spots throughout that game if I remember right.
They didn't get a lot of sacks or anything but they were pestering the backfield.
