The signing of Peat
Another example of fans not really knowing what the hell is going on. Trust me when a NFL team pays out that amount of bonus they seldom make mistakes. Peat is a mauler, and can fill in at tackle. Do we wish he was a Carl Nicks, or a Alan Faneca? Of course we do, but he's a NFL starter for many years. We can win with his talent. I have nothing else to say.

re: The signing of Peat
He is an average offensive lineman that can’t compete with good defensive players. Guarantee he costs us in the playoffs next year. It was a panic signing. He will start for many years as an average o lineman but should have never been paid top 6 guard money. He is mediocre

re: The signing of Peat
It's not that they signed peat, it's the amount of guaranteed money they gave him
I know pff isn't everything but I think I read he hasn't been over a 50 the last few seasons

I know last year he was graded 42 out of 42 left guards

re: The signing of Peat
The dude has terrible feet in pass pro. He can’t change direction without lunging and/or falling. The Vikings, who moved their DE over him, exposed him (although he has looked like crap in many other games as well). He can’t handle speed and shifty DLineman. Stop trying to make this signing justifiable. He was grossly over paid and algae been a disappointment from where he was drafted.

There’s been a few games where he made Gerald McCoy and Aaron Donald look bad, not every game, but he’s done well against some good Dlinemen.

Illl give you Gerald McCoy but Donald ate his lunch when he wanted too. There may have been a game where he kept him in check but i mostly remember Donald getting the best of him.

Donald got the best of him during NFC Championship for sure. I believe the regular season that year Donald got handled pretty well. Our Oline overall struggles during playoffs, frustrating

re: The signing of Peat
Well I was only looking at the saints organization and not the nfl as a whole. Secondly, they have actually made pretty good decisions lately until the Peat signing. They also haven’t been handing out big contracts to free agents with exception to our guys who were no brainers. I guess you can say names like Kurt coleman, Patrick Robinson, and cam Meredith but Those were smaller contracts and injuries derailed two of those guys careers.

re: The signing of Peat
Working with the type of money they gave him, the position should have been upgraded. He’s not good. Hopefully they know something we don’t about his recent performance. Injury, etc. Only way it makes sense.

Everyone knew Peat was arse and wanted to move on, but now the Saints signed him and he’s suddenly a great player. Sad....and then you factor in the 5 years and 33 million guaranteed, and it’s just mind boggling.

re: The signing of Peat
Could also show many examples where fans were right and the saints fo was dead wrong. Majority of knowledgeable fans hated the signing and price of Kurt Coleman. Turned out we paid him the same amount for one year of work as the all pro honey badger made that year. Over 6 million which is crazy. Hell Carolina fans were laughing at us for that contract when he signed.

Same with the 4th rounder rick Leonard, universally panned by fans after the pick, and sure enough was cut soon after. I criticized both of these moves at the time. And I’ll go on record saying resigning Peat was a big overpay.
Would have preferred letting Easton start and sign Miller who cincy cut for 4 million and let them battle it out. Combined they still make less than Peat will......

We have younger, better players where that 33 million would have been better served elsewhere on the team.,

And they’ve had 5 years to evaluate Peat in house. Dude is still only 26 and has played good ball. You don’t just lose that ability that quickly at such a young age

The saints have been pretty good at resigning, trading or letting guys walk. They deserve the benefit of the doubt on this one. Whether Peat has been dinged up or what, idk. They have a plan I think

Two more:
CJ Spiller
Coby Fleener

Mistakes are common.

re: The signing of Peat
Also another point that hasnt veen made, if they love peat so much why did they let him play out his 5th year option at a high price

Why didn't they sign him last year and get that number down
Doesn't make sense and it does seem like they panicked

re: The signing of Peat
Y’all keep bringing up examples of free agents that didn't work out after paying big contracts. Peat was drafted and developed here in Nola.
