The problem isn't Sean Payton. It isn't Mickey Loomis. It is Tom Benson.

He is old, and basically sitting on the sideline in adult diapers eating jelly beans. He obviously is not in a position to make the calls. Gayle has no experience running anything whatsoever so she obviously defers.

Who does she defer to? Dennis Lauscha and...Mickey Loomis.

Obviously, Loomis isn't going to fire himself. And Loomis essentially defers to Payton on all things football. On top of that, they gave Payton a giant contract with several years left on it. They are not going to pay him not to coach.

With no accountability, this team will never be the same again. And the Catch 22 is...without Benson, we may not even have a team.

So its a pretty depressing outlook.

i think you are being pretty dramatic. Saints have made some exstensive overhauls past few years both coaching personnel and player personnel. We almost thought Payton was gone a year ago. Don't sit here and think Payton's seat isn't getting hot. But the Saints organization is about as professional as it gets and tries to keep a tight lid, don't mistake that for Tom is just sitting there shitting himself eating jelly beans. I think you are desperately being dramatic about an organization that has been about as professionally run as any past 12 years.

do i have to search your post history to see if you thought Payton deserved this year's run? I thought last year would have been a bit premature to can him especially considering the roster overhaul we've done and have transitioned this team. If you think he should have been fired last year heading into drew's final year extension then say it. If not, then we got to just sit back and shutup and let this year play out.

Agree. But I do think Loomis deserves a lot of the blame as well.

Loomis basically acts as the owner of 2 franchises, with no accountability.

Been in this job for almost 20 years with no end in sight. If you would've told me that when he was hired I would've basically assumed we'd had the Patriots or Spurs run through the 2000s.

He'll never fire himself...Best job in sports.

yes, yes it is and I don't see it getting better any time soon. this organization has been running on cruise control the last 5 years, a few things changed when it got to the point of national talking point how bad we were being coached and that was the only reason changes were demanded and enforced but the fact that they kept allen when he clearly wasnt getting the job done was a sign that these were not going to change much

I was wrong.

He is my biggest problem, much bigger than Payton.

He has basically ruined two franchises.

The fact that he has any control over the fricking Pels is utterly insane.

I made this point in this board a year ago and it took off like a lead balloon.

Some people still haven't figured out yet that there's no accountability for the GM and the coach right now. They feel no pressure to perform. They are in a state of inertia. There is no owner driving them forward, demanding excellence.

The problem is that he can't do whatever he wants, because the very sad reality is that he doesn't have the requisite faculties to make decisions anymore.

We weren't wrong in the thought he deserved this final run. We just have to let it play out.

Except a court basically determined otherwise.

So what is the best guess how this organization and team plays out for the next five years ?

-Tom Benson Passes away ?
- Drew Brees retires/ unsigned
- Sean Payton resigns ?

Doesn't look hopeful . Aging OLine and QB. Window is closed now. Rebuild after Brees and Payton looks to be at least 4-5 year project.

The most likely problem is that this won't be his final run because:

1) His contract is too big to fire him

2) There is no one to fire him.

The guy who's supposedly only here for his genius cap management oversaw some of the worst cap management in the HISTORY OF TWO DIFFERENT SPORTS!

But, I dont know. Stand up and get crunk...or something

Brees signs with a contender in the offseason.

I think SP will play out his contract because he's not going to walk away from that kind of money. SP leaves when his contract his up.

TB passes away and Gayle is content to let Lauscha/Loomis run the franchises. No immediate fix in sight. Loomis slowly fails up to becoming the de facto owner and has a figurehead GM in his place.
