s easily been the most consistent thing about Saints' drafts under Payton & Co.

You can get good players anywhere, but if theres on thing they should be confident with, it would be that

Les, you’re fricking melting. Payton said in the presser last night they didn’t have any confidence in the interior OL in the later rounds. They’ve said they felt good about the depth at LB and WR. Put 2 and 2 together big guy

My favorite stat on Cesar Ruiz, per @SportsInfo_SIS: In 36 games/31 starts at center and right guard at Michigan, Ruiz was not called for a single holding call,

We were third in the NFL in holding penalties last year

Carl, some of t the best OL that Payton has drafted have been in the 3rd (Armstead) 4th (Jahri Evans, Jermon Bushrod), 5th (Carl Nicks), 7th (Zack Strief)

So then they're pretty damn good at evaluating OL talent and considered Ruiz worthy of a first rounder?

I have half a mind to go bump the thread of people losing their shite over the Ram pick

Underhill said that wasn’t in their plans. He didn’t say this, but he alluded that the only other player they considered there was Jordyn Brooks

the player is fine, J.

the capital used to acquire the player is in question, given all they've poured into the position the last calendar year

Would take Ruiz over Brooks. Not sure the allure of a LB who can’t cover.

True, but those were a lot of luck. But Les, I don’t disagree with you enough to expend any more energy on this. Let’s re-evaluate after tonight and Saturday.

The Cowboys used 3 first rounders in the span of 4 years on OL and it worked out for them.

I had to sleep on it, now I understand. The guards are the weakest part of the offense, and maybe even the team. We moved Peat to guard because he couldn't handle LT. Warford is just a fill-in until Easton gets ready. Which Easton didn't even play last year.

So in the near future, about 2 years or so, our guards will be Easton and Ruiz. Only caveat is that we signed Peat already.

Easton is not in this teams' future plans.

Warford is a 3x pro bowler on a 4yr 34mil contract.

He’s not melting. Melting is what happened last night. He makes good points.

Even though I love him and hate to admit it, I agree with something BilJ said earlier this week about not being totally sold on Queen. He’s super athletic and we’ll need somebody to cover all of Tampa”s damn TEs, but it kinda scares me that in a 3-4 at LSU(I know the Saints run a 4-3, I’m just saying there were 4 starting LBs), he didn’t earn a starting spot until the 2nd half of his last season. I’m sure he had some spot starts before that due to injury or suspensions, but the light didn’t turn on until late. I’m not sure his transition to the NFL will be as smooth as Debo’s or Riley’s or Kwan’s. He may wind up better than all of them, but it may take a year or 2.

Queen had to land in the right place

This was not the right place for him. We fricking suck at developing Linebackers but people wanted to draft one?

The LB play under Mike Nolan improved exponentially. He’s gone but his protege Hodges is is now.

IM not sure where that narrative comes from

Certainly not as a starter, but he’s a cheap and experienced backup who can play all 3 inside spots. He’ll play out the rest of his deal, I’d imagine.

And they obviously want to get out from under his contract. Coming off a bad year, I’m not sure they could get much for him. They may take him into camp and see if anybody’s starting guards go down and get desperate.

if queen played for Auburn, no one bats an eye about passing on someone with such little tape. I like his athletic ability too but man you'd think we'd have passed on a guaranteed lock pro bowler.

I don't love his size and not sure I love what's between the ears on him is my biggest reservation. I think he'll be fine but there are certainly some flags on him

Yes. He will be cut in camp, I think
