The Brees void.

Been a saints fan since the 80’s. What many of you fail to recognize is that if we landed Watson, we’d actually have hope every year of going to the Super Bowl.
Brees gave us that every year he was here. Especially after that magical year in 06. We didn’t have that at all last year. Our team may take a few hits in the short term, but when you have a great qb, you become a free agent destination and add guys that will play at a reduced salary to win or pad their stats.
We just saw this with OBJ a couple months ago.
Watson is top 5 right now and would be right behind Rodgers in the entire NFC. You get that spot filled and worry about the rest later.

I don't think the hit will be as bad as many that are freaking out think it will be. Depth chart will be a battle of "who the F is that" for a little while, but should still be able to field a quality team when healthy

Another thing people don't get is those picks look much better going out than they actually end up being.

I agree. I was all in on the Russell Wilson idea, for this reason, until that ship sailed. The IQ of this board isn’t as high as you would think.

The most important thing to remember is that you HAVE to have a good QB in this league to compete.

However, if you can only get Watson by giving up your elite o-line and d-lines, then you’re not really better off, are you? With great lines, you can gamble on cheap rookie or journeyman qbs and compete in every game.

Or, are you saying the Saints don't need anything else...just Watson.

Davenport and/or Onyemata, 1-2 1s, 1-2 2s.
We've done very well on the defensive line from a scouting and development standpoint, so we can afford to gamble there and re-stocking. Early round picks have not been all that great for us - we do very well later on and with UDFAs.
I just don't really like unknown with Watson as far as suspension goes. He also hasn't played a football game since January 2021.
Consider me open to whatever but not sold on it as a slam dunk.

It's a QB driven league, get your franchise QB then Build your pieces around him. We saw this year how difficult it is without a franchise QB.

Three firsts, which we should get at least one back maybe two for CSP in the next year or two.
Davenport or Turner. Which we pretty much played with only one of the two most of last year. Granderson and TK were good backups last year.
McCoy which will allow Ruiz to slide to his natural center position leaving a hole at RG.
Armstead is likely gone. Hurst or Peat will fill in at LT and LG. Will definitely have to use a 2nd or third if we keep those picks to try and get another guard.

Agreed I’m all in on Watson. Love the move whatever it takes. This is a really rare opportunity to nab a proven elite qb. Very little risk very high reward. Teams will spend 3 firsts to grab a guy in the draft that never played a down in the nfl and hope that he is anywhere as good as Watson. We have a roster to win a Super Bowl now even if we lose a few pieces to get Watson. He immediately makes us contenders every year for the next decade.

Sorta, but not really. Unless you’re Tom Brady, the NFL is a league based around building a productive young core in the draft and riding it to consistent success. With few exceptions, most teams won superbowls with qbs they drafted or acquired while still on their rookie deals (Eli Manning), and usually while that qb was on a rookie deal.
Let’s look at the qbs that broke that mold over the last 20 years:
Matt Stafford: Rams
Tom Brady: Bucs
Manning: Broncos
Brees: Saints
Warner: Cardinals (journeyman)
Brad Johnson: Bucs (low paid journeyman)
