Since it’s behind a paywall: LINK

Pick 28, New Orleans Saints: Payton Turner, Edge, Houston Turner (6-foot-5, 270 pounds) was not projected by many to be a first-round pick. Brugler had him as his 60th overall prospect. Jeremiah had him at 42. But there’s plenty to like.

Turner is a high-effort player who came on strong last year. He had 10 sacks, 25 tackles for loss and 11 passes defended in 40 games (27 starts) at Houston. He has the ability to rush the passer from both defensive end and defensive tackle. Turner has upside and should be a nice addition next to Cam Jordan and Marcus Davenport on the Saints’ defensive line. The only question here is whether the Saints could have traded back and added more picks if Turner was their guy.

Grade: B-

Yeah the high effort thing is one thing Payton really liked. He spoke about it after. You know who else was a high effort player? Trey Hendrickson. If we drafted him at the end of the first people would have come unglued. But then he produced a season like last year. There is something to those types of players. This guy has way more physical gifts than Hendrickson too.

are you arguing that drafting TH in the 1st would be smart?

if Turner doesn't produce until year 4, this is a terrible pick

the value in guys like TH are that you can get them in the 4th/5th and develop them cheaply. different story for 1st rounders. so if turner takes 4 years to develop and we get 1, maybe 2 years, you'd be OK with letting him walk?

But we got TH in the 3rd, which I would argue is a pretty valuable pick

I trust our draft room.

Kamara
Thomas
Ramczyk
Lattimore
McCoy
Ruiz (TBD)
Trautman

Even Davenport has looked good when healthy the last two years.

We have two picks today. Still a lot of talent left.
Would love a WR and CB today. Grab some of the speed left.

I just dunno. At first I was like who tf? Now I’m who? Minus the tf. Games aren’t played on paper thankfully.

Right now Sean Payton is reading this article and asking people what "trading back" means

people like to keep pointing out that NO could've traded down, but doing so would've costs the Saints the 5th year option

If there was a redraft, Hendrickson would go in the 1st that year

If they traded back into the 2nd round then they lose the 5th year option on a 1st round pick

people are like

'oh you could have traded back and gotten an early 2nd and a mid-late 3rd'

but that 5th year option is a major factor, like ^ said.

that's the reason why we didn't lose a guy like lattimore or ramczyk yet and the reason why we lost a guy like hendrickson.

I feel like we’re going to end up with four picks. I think we keep 60 and use a future 2nd and one of our thirds for an additional 2nd round pick. Then we use our 4-7 round picks to get another third
