Most of what the saints are going through now is a result of missing on multiple draft picks, but you act like such a thing is an anomaly for an organization. I just call it variance.
Every draft pick has a certain probability associated with it. You find a series of absolute gems in late rounds, the colstons, evans, nicks, grahams, etc you're kind of due to miss on some guys down the road. There has never been an organization on the history of football that just routinely plucks future probowlers out of the bottom of the draft. In fact, there are multiple organizations for which a draft in which half their picks or more work out for them is a complete anomaly.
Yeah, but the problem of missing on multiple draft picks is magnified when you have a significantly lower amount of picks than other organizations. I don't feel like typing it all out again but see the thread I made the other day just to see how bad it's been the past few years. Draft picks since superbowl compared to others

All I can say is Lyons' "sources" aren't always accurate. Mostly click bait if there's a name for it

This whole thing is a vast conspiracy to shite on my productivity levels today.

Agreed this board seems to underestimate draft picks…..the difference between 8-8 and 12-4 could very well be 3-4 players….all of whom you could pick up in the draft and FA in ONE season.
We were probably 3-4 players away from being 13-3 last year. but we are also 3-4 players away from being 3-13. very fine line in the NFL
I really really like the Saints offseason so far…the attitude of no man is safe is also going to have people working their arse more than ever.

you're right, it's not exactly a huge sample size, but loomis/payton definitely developed a pattern of trading away picks. fewer picks is a smaller sample size. Smaller size size means your variance goes thru the roof.
They gambled and they lost. Possibly overconfidence from finding so many starters late in drafts in the past. But that by itself =/= mickey loomis is an atrocious gm, or even bottom half. i'd still consider him average.

Throw in the two 2nd round picks lost in the whole bounty saga & the negative effect of trading away picks becomes even more magnified.

i try to judge gm's and coaches by whether or not they learn from their mistakes, especially since misses are inevitable in this league. i think we'll learn a lot by how this draft goes about whether or not they've learned much from theirs. If they give up more than a 4th to trade up to take amari cooper or make a ridiculous offer for odell beckham or some bullshite i think that'll just about set their reputation in stone.

They need to stay put & let the draft come to them. There is the possibility of talented players at positions of need falling to us at the 13th spot. No need to reach for anyone here. There needs to be a strong mindset of quality quantity & not just quality in itself. That is what has gotten the organization in trouble recently. The draft is just like playing the Powerball. The more tickets you buy, the greater the chances are for you to win a prize. I know Payton liked Beckham going into last year's draft & he probably does even more so after the huge season Odell had but betting the farm on him in a trade would be foolish. This team has other needs at several positions. Hopefully they retain & use every pick that have acquired so far.

Starting to think this was a big jerk off all along.

We can get Amari Cooper for our 2 1's and keep Cam…get a receiver who will step in a be a top 10 in the league immediately
This is all a pointless exercise, but Beckham >>> Cooper.

Ready to see the next move. Curious to see if they actually keep blowing up the roster.
Actually, I'm just ready for May so we can see what the depth chart looks like. It's so hard to predict at this point with the rumors and number of draft picks. The front office could go so many different ways. It's stressing me out

No because his sources aren't accurate

I look at it as purely entertaining. Even if I did not agree with the moves, there are only 1 or 2 I did not agree with so far, I like the fact that the team is being aggressive to try to solve the 7-9 issues.

I'm definitely intrigued, but I keep trying to get a mental image of next years team. Even if we didn't make any more moves, the draft can go so many ways. We have four or five positions of need, and what do you do if Mariota falls to 13? I think grooming him under Brees would be OK, but I'm not sure we have the personnel flexibility to pass on the OL, WR, and pass rushing talent in the first round.
I guess that's a good situation to be in, though. Him falling to 13 would allow for trading back and grabbing another 2nd or 3rd rounder.

If we were in rebuilding mode, I would agree with thinking about drafting him to mold under Brees; however, I think they are still in win now mode. So, if he does fall to 13, I would start picking up the phone to see who would want to move up to grab him. With that said, I would hope they will stay in the top 20.
