I have absolutely no idea what the Saints have been doing regarding the backup QB.

We saw what happened to the Packers last year when Rodgers went down. God forbid that something happens to Brees because that'll be the Saints x10.

If the Saints really didn’t think he was worthy of playing QB, why would they give him reps in a preseason game? Come on.

Well, yeah, they obviously want to see what they've got but last year there were some reports that Payton had already declared him the successor to Brees. You don't put that guy in the game to make tackles if he's your future.

He may or may not be the future but he definitely has a valuable skill set. Even if he’s a career backup that also makes plays on special teams and can have specialty play package here or there it’s a win. The dude is like 3 roster spots in one! That gives a team a serious competitive advantage when it comes to game day roster.

Also, if you haven’t seen it his stat line was excellent tonight.

Passing: 8 for 9, 72 yards, 100 rating
Rushing: 7 carries, 52 yards, TD

He didn't look anywhere near as good as that stat line indicates.

His second chapter looked much better than his first.
Perhaps some running plays are good for his game.
When has CSP ever planned for such?

Looked fine to me when he was actually passing or could escape the pocket.

Took some horrible sacks, but his ball placement was very good, unlike Savage who had two good balls despite completing about 10 or so.

Payton said no matter who replaces Brees he will use their skill set, because there is no other Brees out there.

He gave Savage a lot of check down opportunities, and he gave Hill some read options and quick read plays (and if his read wasn't there he looked to take off).

If anyone can gameplan around what a QB does best it's Payton.

Sorry man, but I disagree. This league is too physical for that. If Cam Newton at 265 can't pull it off, neither can Hill
Fair enough. I think he did pretty well for not having the full arsenal of offense available, plus the Jags are pretty stout defensively.

Not everyone is going to look like Brees. We've been pretty spoiled watching one of the greatest QBs ever for the last decade.

Oh I agree but my question or point was when has he had to plan for a QB like Hill?
Even coaches have learning curves.

Maybe watch the game instead of looking at stats. That stat line makes him look amazing. He had good moments and bad ones. Took horrible sacks, looked indecisive at times. Then had great moments of athleticism and a great pass to Treqan for instance.

It was more up and down than that stat line indicates.

You need to consider the guy brand new, Because last year he didnt take any snaps at QB.

I watched the game and I saw a qb with a non traditional skillset be productive. If Payton can have Quincy Carter as his starting qb he sure as hell could get the same run out of Taysom.

Also, his stat line is his stat line. Nothing more nothing less.

Reminds me of John Fourcade during the strike season.

I liked Hill he just needs more live action experience at QB.. He needs to take some snaps with the 1’s next game.

It'd say overall it was a success for his first legit qb outing

This is where I’m at. I think showing some good flashes was reasonable. We had to know he wouldn’t look amazing tonight.
