So teams frequently cover WR’s with LB’s? No. They use nickel backs or another extra DB.

I agree in general but I think TE is just the term being used because he usually is playing receiver from the in-line or slot position and rarely lines up outside, which is consistent with TEs. I doubt that a ton of his routes will actually be TE routes or that his duties will be exactly TE. More likely he will be asked to bulk up some and just continue to play a swiss army knife role but with more emphasis on catching passes than before.

I don’t get why he isn’t only used on 3rd and short at shotgun with the option play.
