He sees a Dome without 80,000 square feet of ramps that cut into what could be prime club-level space located between the 30-yard lines. He sees new, ground-level entry points located at the two corners adjacent to Poydras Street.

Then, with his body turned toward the seats, the executive vice president of stadiums and arenas for SMG sweeps one hand toward the top deck in the 43-year-old stadium. There, he sees a standing-room only deck space similar to what the Dallas Cowboys have at their state-of-the-art stadium.

This projected construction schedule would be similar to the $376 million renovation that took place for the work done in 2009 and 2010, Thornton said.

I'm sure I'll get downvoted for this...and I'll preface it by saying that I love the Dome.

But it is a dump if you've been to a few modern stadiums.

We are never getting a new stadium, so anything they can do to improve it I'm down for. Looking forward to see what they come up with.

Not really and renovation problem but can they get a new food vendor other than Centerplate. I get the runs by the third quarter after eating a dome dog.

The shell of the Dome is still good. I hope they gut it as much as they can and do all mentioned above.

If they can just get some room in the concourses that’d be great. I read they want to do something with the ramps from the terrace, but I love walking down those after a win and watching the drunk asses

2 million for a study??? The dome is fine the way it is.

Not if you want to continue to land marquee events, which are somewhat important to the economy of New Orleans.

They can't just get a couple of grad students to come figure it out.

You can only polish a turd so many times.

The Las Vegas stadium and all of the new shiny venues that are built/being built will put NOLA in the back of the line for sure for future SB's.

I hate to say it, but I'm dreading going to Saints games in 2020-2024 when they're renovating the dome piece by piece. I'm curious how they'll go about doing that without disrupting the numerous big events happening during that time.

My friend's dad (an attorney) took a nasty spill on a down ramp years ago, and he messed up his shoulder so bad he can no longer play golf, let alone lift his arm above his head. From what I understand, he only asked that they pay for his medical bills, but who knows. Either way, this prompted them to coat the concrete in that tacky substance that's there today, but I think they still feel there's too much liability having them there with 60,000 drunk people walking down them after a saints win.

they used to be super slippery. they're fine now but it's still a liability problem i'd imagine and getting people out of the terrace after the games is a bitch

Absolute bullshite. I’ve now been to every permanent NFL stadium except for San Francisco and the Dome is awesome.

Much better than that “semi new” batch that includes Cincy, Cleveland, Denver, Philly, New England Pittsburgh, Seattle, Tennessee, etc.

Only Dallas, Phoenix, Atlanta, and Minnesota are clearly better than the Superdome and each of those would cost well over 1.5 billion in today’s construction costs - no longer feasible.

It’s an architectural marvel and an absolute gem of a building - belongs with Lambeau and Soldier Field in terms of history.

I just hope they get rid of those damn 1970s, multicolored seats in the terrace.

Why does the stadium matter beyond providing a reasonably comfortable seat to watch a live event? Only easily distracted dufuses give a frick about bells and whistles that eventually grow commonplace as well. The Dome is fine.
