Should the Saints offer Winston an additional year or two now that the draft is over?

With no 1st rounder next year it seems Winston is our QB for at least the next three years.

Something I am fine with by the way.

Offer an additional year our two at 16 mil. per year.

This offers more money to Winston and would clean our cap space going forward.

I'm a big Winston believer. But no. We still need to see how this plays out. Next year's draft should be big. Yes we don't have a first but I'm expecting to get one for Sean Payton next year. Keep your options open. No reason not to

Even if the Saints trade Payton it would not be for a top 10 pick.

You underestimate what a terrible franchise will pay for a HOF caliber coach.

Nevermind that he's probably the greatest offensive mind of the last 15 seasons.

Jerry would without a doubt sell the farm to get Payton - 2 firsts at a minimum.

Back to the original point of this topic.....absolutely not. It's a "prove it" deal for a reason. I have all the faith that Jameis can win a SB here but he's not getting a long term deal or elite QB money until he proves he can take us deep into the playoffs.

Maybe not but we could package it with a future first to move up. Or if this class is deep enough one may fall to us. Like I said, options.

Like him as a qb or not, that’s a pretty hefty accusation to throw out there like that.

You got any proof to support this? You have my attention. Let’s see it

I'll never understand the love for Winston. Dude is a FA QB that is getting us through a franchise retirement.

If he proves himself to be franchise worthy, then pay the man after he proves it.

As the words of Lee Corso states...

Not so fast, my friend. If Sean is willing to sign a long term contract and not a 2-3 year thing... Teams would very much pay with a first rough pick... Plus other picks as well.

I mean… he did settle a civil case with his accuser. The school paid her a frick ton of money. There was evidence the TPD didn’t investigate it fully. It’s a pretty credible claim that you’d have to be under a rock not to know about.

Didn’t he plead out in that Uber Case?

I don't recall if there were ever formal charges in the Uber case, but he did settle with her. Outside of that, the 2 cases are very different. The Uber case was him groping the driver (in a drive-thru), the FSU case may have been a legitimate rape case. The school had to settle with the accuser because they completely botched the investigation.

Back to OP, you don't extend him just because you didn't draft a QB. They gave him that contract knowing they weren't drafting a QB. You still need to know how he will do with a full season under his belt, a healthy o-line, and some legitimate weapons; then you can consider an extension after the 2022 season or you just roll with him in 2023 with plans to go another route. But, you need to see his play on the field and determine if he's the guy you want leading your offense before you extend

Nope. I want to see Winston with no Payton for a full year first. If he plays well, then extend him.

He doesn’t want an additional year. He wants to get a market contract at the end of this one
