re: Shough has to start and be good next year to justify this pick, right?

While true, the data shows this was likely a wasted pick.

I would have preferred us to do what the Browns did…ignore this QB class and fill holes.

I genuinely hope I’m wrong, we drafted an outlier, and he balls for us….but he’ll likely end up as the bridge qb we hopefully take in the top 3 next year

Probably because we’ve been conditioned to high draft picks being bums.

The Browns picked a QB in the 3rd round.

I hated the pick but nothing we can do about it now. Let’s just hope they find some quality players who can make the team in the remainder of their draft picks.

Don’t overreact to the 40th pick. Who was available that we didn’t pick?
And we can’t be certain of the details in next year’s draft…

Why do yall keep dismissing this like it’s some throwaway pic

We are talking about a top 40 pick for a team with holes everywhere

Exactly.

There were some really, really good edge guys and OL at 40.

You can't tell me Shough was that superior of a prospect to a guy like McCord. You know, the guy who produced in multiple seasons better than Shough? A guy who also has a really live arm.

Using a late 3rd, 4th, or 5th on a developmental outlier guy? Perfect

Using a top-40 pick on one? Why?

In the late Brees era, maybe you could sell this pick as future development and expensive insurance for a guy that’s had a run of injuries. Plus we had Payton, so I’d trust his qb eye a little more, Kellen doesn’t have the skins on the wall to blindly “trust the process” (really any skins on the wall in that dept)

For this team’s current state, it doesn’t really make sense to use that pick on a dart throw vs. getting a starter to fill one of many holes. Even if he becomes a serviceable back up, he’s probably done little on the field for you.

What would you have done with the pick?

Tons of talent. Really wanted Burden. Ezeriku or Mason Taylor would have been really good picks.

Taylor could be a ten year starter for us at te.

I actually probably trust Moore with QBs than Payton.

That is not to say I trust him as a coach more. To be clear.

Pick a position, we could use help all over but personally I would have gone with one of the edge guys

You get as many starters as you can and take a QB next draft where you’ll surely have a top 5 pick and several MUCH better qb options to choose from

This season is a classic tank year

Well we never spent significant capital on one in his tenure. his lone first rd pick so far has good early returns, even though it mostly got shite on.

Also has an UDFA hit in Romo.

That’s more than many can say
