Nearly everyone has had time to let this disaster sink in. My question is what changes are going to be made? Pass rush non-existent, LB's lost in space, and no words to describe the DB's. (Fitzpatrick had a 156.2 passer rating!)

Who will go to the bench; who, if anyone, will be brought up from the PS. Any possibility that someone might actually be released?

I know last year the first two games were horrible as to the defense (something like 1000 yards given up in those two games) and things turned around.

I'm just not that optimistic after this display.

Their performance was inexcusable but the way the defense played last year, outside of the first two games, was no fluke. They were consistent throughout the season and into the playoffs. I think there's reason to be optimistic.

A lot of the problems from the first two games last year was a lack of communication. I'm thinking that has to be part of the problem. The defensive line not getting any pressure... that's mostly effort right there.

They were not playing aggressive at all and Allen called a conservative game - that gave up 41 points... Dennis Allen needs to do better, period.

Onyemata was decent, but Rankins and Davison showed me absolutely nothing. Id personally give Stallworth a shot to get a few snaps next game. Also gotta activate PJ we need another CB who can come in a few snaps a half and give crawley or lattimore a breather. D Line id start Davenport over Okafor( he looks ok but hes a bit slow rn, needs to get up to game speed.) Most importantly we have to move our Linebackers around.. Davis back to the middle, with Robertson and Teo outside and AJ Klein only in on 3rd and short, goaline, certain run situations, etc. Anzalone can play on 3rd and long utilize his speed, his run support has been an issue. Most importantly we have to find a SS, Coleman is a waste of 6 million dollars and Vonn Bell was about as awful as it gets.

I hate to say it but I think they drank their own koolaid, and assumed Tampa would be a bottom barrel team. Especially with a perceived backup QB playing.

His name is Craig Robertson. We should see lots of him.

If you can't get effort in game 1 home opener than that's a massive problem. Game 7 on the road in Buffalo, maybe. Game 1 in home opener with noneffert, frick that....we in trouble

They played pretty good last year but if you go back and look at who we played, you will realize that this defense will not be top 15 this year. We had 8-9 games where we played bad teams with backup and rookie QBs.

Its reason to be concerned this year. With the schedule we have, its looking like a long season.

None. Harris and Anzalone played last year until they were hurt. Roberson should be in and Teo should start with Klein coming in every other third down or so. Davenport should probably get more time too. But none of that will happen.

If you are looking to the practice squad for answers then this is going to be a long season.

As it turns out there's a reason a few national analysts were saying this Saints defense was going to be surprisingly bad.

In keeping with Saints fans tradition, most everyone poo poo'd them because muh... Kool-aid and black and gold.....

Demario Davis and Kurt Coleman both looked lost out there. They both were beyond terrible.

A few simple things:
1) Payton & co talking about keeping Kamara in a pitch count before the season even starts is wrong, that’s basically looking ahead at that point and assuming a Win and not taking your opponent seriously. Do what you have to do to win THIS week. As they say, “the most important game is the next game”, not a game in the 2nd half of the season or playoffs at this point.
2) LBs: Teo & Robertson we’re our 2 best last year, everyone saw that. Davis didn’t show much in preseason or yesterday. He’s okay, but not worth the contract we gave. Anzalone & Klein are backups, period
3) SS; Kurt Coleman play & contract don’t add up just like Demario Davis. Von Bell is also a backup, period
4) CBs played horrible yesterday, but I think that’s just a fluke. Crawley usually is a PI machine, which is why I can never be as high on him as most people on here, but his coverage is usually better than that. Also we definitely need to activate PJ Williams, he isn’t all pro but I think he’s way underrated on this board, also if Lattimore or Crawley get hurt then who’s going to take their place on the outside?
5) Where was Tre’Quan Smith? Sure he’s a rookie, but he looked good in preseason. Announcers made a comment about the WR corps not being where we wanted it to be, but that was first real negative I had heard in regards to Smith

Dennis Allen did not have that D ready yesterday. Played lethargic, sat back on their heels, reacted instead of attacking, and didn’t make any adjustments

I had these guys plus Rankins as huge question marks going into the season and got blasted for it. Hate being right.

Totally shocked by the lack of production by Lattimore, Williams, Crawley, and Jordan though. At least Cam did deflect one pass. He's still got that part of his game going for him. I expect a better effort this week by these 4 guys. However, I don't have much faith in any of the linebackers. If Robertson is healthy and doesn't play then I won't have much faith in the coaching staff either.

I don’t think Rankins is a question mark, but I just don’t think he’s going to be the stud we were hoping he was going to be and that they said this offseason that he was looking like. Stinchcomb eveb said for 1 of the preseason games that Rankins was going to have a 10 sack season, which nothing he’s done so far would suggest that

Yeah this is laughable. This would be the production of an all-time great and as you said he's done nothing to warrant that kind of projection.

However, he can be a solid DT if he just consistently plays to his best level which he hasn't done yet.
