He went into the hospital but released a statement a day or two ago that it was precautionary. Maybe things have taken a turn.

I am the same way.
I’m originally from New Orleans and was fortunate enough to grab season tickets last year after my time in the USMC. The majority of people (basically everyone other than family) that I take to New Orleans have never been there before.
The Rebirth statue is one of the first things I show them, because I know what that play/statue means to me. I know it means the same to the majority of us.
I’m sure I will be cutting onions the next time I see it if he passes away.

He was at the circ du soliel show couple weeks ago. Looked fine all things considered. His beard is now epic level awesome.

He's been really damned transparent about his ALS, both in the good and the bad. I don't think he'd lead anyone on through his own words.
That doesn't mean that something didn't take an unexpected turn for the worse though.
