At this point in their respective joint careers B and B are on an entire different plane than Drew and Payton. Especially the coaches. The Patriots replace key players and find ways to go 11-5. We replace/lose players and we're likely to have our 3rd losing season in 5. I don't like it either but the days of this regime being a legitimate contender for the big prize are about done unless Brees agrees to a significant paycut.

We lost to the Bucs. At home. They started a rookie QB.

What sunshine pumping spin are you going to put on 1-7 halfway through the season?

The Saints are a bad football team the past two years. They're not going to magically "get it together" and become a good team with the players currently on the roster.

Sorry I don't see it. When was the last time Brady and Belichick had a losing season? CSP has had 3-4 underachieving seasons already. Can't remember the last time Brady and Belichick did. If anything, Rodgers and McCarthy are much more similar to Brady and Belichick imo, which someone already pointed out. But nobody can touch 4 championships in 15 years like Brady and Belichick in this era of football.

Didn't the patriots start out 1-1 last year, coming off a 12-4 year in 2013? Exactly the same scenario as the Saints IMHO

I think the more accurate comparison is Eli and Coughlin. Historically awful starts in the past with just enough talent to make a late season push every year.

They also play in a division with these QBs since 2010:
1. EJ Manuel
2. Mark Sanchez
3. Ryan Tannehill
4. Tyrod Taylor
5. Ryan Fitzpatrick
6. Geno Smith
7. Michael Vick
8. Matt Moore
9. Chad Henne
10. Tyler Thigpen
11. Chad Pennington
12. Brad Smith
13. Thad Lewis
14. Kyle Orton
15. Mark Brunell
16. Matt Simms
17. Tim Tebow

Pretty easy to win a free 6 games a year when all you have to worry about is the opponents defense.

yeah except that late season pushes, with all of the cold weather outdoor away games such things entail, have never been our strong point.

why does everyone in this thread seem to be comparing the two as if the gm plays no role in success in the nfl?

We got turnovers last week. When we ran it, it looked like that could be a good gameplan, the young defense players look to have potential.

We lost a 6th straight home game to a team coming off a 28 point loss.

I'd like to see Sean coach another capable quarterback again. Brees is done. He already lost 5+ yards since 2010, and now with an injury, he won't have much of a deep threat that the saints thrived on in years past. Cooks and Joe Morgan are no threat at all because Brees is unable to deliver the ball in a deep route. Brees also lost that elevation accuracy that he had years ago where he could put the ball just above defenders finger tips. It was uncanny how good he was at that, but it's gone now.

I'm ready to see a QB that can make all the throws.

You should go do that for the nfcs and I'll go ahead and pull up the afc east. I guarantee you the list doubles

You say that but he was one of the most accurate on deep balls the last few years.

He's had the worst oline he's ever had in his career the last 2 years, that correlates to poor qb play more often than not.

To be fair, we also had shitloads of talent on the defensive side of the ball to compensate for the horrendous guard play. Jordan Devey will never have to buy a beer in Boston because he would be thrown out of every single bar he entered.

Getting Keenan Lewis and Byrd back should help towards the middle/end of the season assuming they have to get into football shape. The problem is, what are you going to do with the guards? New England compensated by moving the center over and starting aa rookie at center and just getting the ball out with lightening quick passes in tiny windows. That is not Brees game, he is a downfield thrower.

It's crazy how much this fact gets overlooked when discussing the current problems of the team. Matter of fact, it's the biggest issue of all.

No running game equals ineffective play action. No threat of play action makes the job of defenders covering our receivers so much easier. Pressure in Brees face means he has to move around in the pocket disrupting him from throwing on time which leads to him holding on to the ball longer & sacks are the result. The offense as a whole can't maintain drives, putting the defense right back on the field. There's no chance to win the time of possession battle that way. It doesn't matter how good of a QB is behind center right now because the offensive line is making it difficult to be successful.
