Bunch what can happen in a year that is going to increase his value lol
He’s a cool weapon but
Kamara
MT
Sanders
Cook
Murray
Will all out touch him if healthy
That’s a lot of money for the 6th man of your offense WHO YOU HAD LOCKED IN AT 1/4th THE PRICE
Maybe him being a potential backup or starting qb option as well?
It's not JUST about the weapon x role. It's also about his potential at qb, whether you or others like you agree with Paytom or not. They see him as a legit option at qb.

Most of the guarantees are in year 2. So no.
You aren’t comprehending the points. Saints essentially added a guaranteed year to his guaranteed 4.6 yr deal.
This is logic, not semantics.

The guy I responded too (or more accurately the guy he was responding too) said this was a 1 year, $16 mil deal, not a 1 year extension.
Maybe it's semantics and he meant it's only a 1 year, $16 mil extension, but that's not what he literally said. If that's what he meant then yeah obviously.
So my argument was based on IF he meant the 1st thing, not the 2nd.

Looking past semantics of it, it essentially IS, even though it’s wrapped up in the details of this 2 yr contract. You are looking at his comment too literally.

I mean ignore what I think.
The market dictates what he is worth & it’s not what he just got paid

If he meant the first then no because the majority of the guarantees are in year 2 and no one cuts a player that will cost them cap (around $10 mil in this case) except in extreme cases (like Galette).
But looking at it I do think I took his post too literally and he meant it's 1 ADDITIONAL year at $16 mil, not that it's a 1 year, $16 mil deal.

There was NO market because the price of the 1st killed it. So we have ZERO clue what he was worth to any other team.

He wasn’t offered because no one was losing a 1st rd pick for him.
Whether it was $5mil or $12mil.
That’s why no one even kicked the tires

Exactly. You’re way too literal of a dude sometimes.

Not because I'm being facetious. I take people at their word so as to not twist what's actually posted. If they correct what they mean after then I'm like oh yeah I see that.
I have to correct what I mean a lot too. Harder to get across meaning over typed text.

We know that no one thinks he is a starting caliber nfl QB
We also know that the Saints fairly owned his rights for $4.6mil & they still decided to pay him more despite not being worth that

He will touch the ball way more this year
Payton realized in that playoff game just how under used taysom was

I would love to see Taysom lined up more in the backfield when in shotgun as the RB/HBack.

He's looking at JUST the guarantees and is mistaken.
This is a legit 2 year, $21 mil contract. We have zero reason nor leverage to cut him after this year, even if he isn't the starting or backup qb.
Posted on 4/26/20 at 2:30 pm to Chalkywhite84
Even If his touches double he still isn’t worth it & is still the 6th best weapon in the offense & you still have to take Brees out the game for most of his touches

despite not being worth that
Saints did despite many Saint fans being naive of what the organization thinks of what Taysom is going to be for their franchise
Posted on 4/26/20 at 2:33 pm to LSUZombie
I agree Zombie. We couldn't afford to do that without JW in the wings.

That’s an irresponsible way to hand out contracts Chad
This is cute Sean Payton. A total emotional decision

Yeah the money is to keep him happy because he Might be the future qb
Some of this money has to do with that, imo
