Former USC outside linebacker Porter Gustin tested positive for Adderall at the NFL scouting combine, a person close to Gustin told the Los Angeles Times.

The NFL considers Adderall a performance-enhancing drug. However, the NFL granted Gustin a temporary Therapeutic Use Exemption for Adderall on April 2, according to emails viewed by The Times.

Gustin applied for the exemption before the combine, which took place Feb. 26 to March 4 in Indianapolis. The exemption Gustin received applies retroactively to the date he applied.

Adderall is a prescription stimulant often used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Gustin’s positive test was first reported by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

The NFL draft begins Thursday night. Gustin has been projected by The Times to be picked between the fourth and seventh rounds given concerns some teams may have about his inability to stay healthy. His last two seasons at USC were derailed by a string of injuries.

Gustin’s exemption expires Sept. 15. He would then have to reapply for the Therapeutic Use Exemption through the team doctors of the franchise that signs him.
