Another cost savings in play
at least you get a pick since you were cutting him anyway

Lutz wasn't even subject to waivers. He was going to sign with the Broncos all along.
The only reason we had any leverage is Sean didn't know which kicker we were going to cut.
people bitching about compensation etc. are clueless

I mean, he’s a kicker
He also hasn’t been very good since 2019.

quote:Wouldn't be surprised if Loomis gives away a pick in the deal. He always seems to add picks to trades. Maybe something like Lutz plus a 2025 7th for a 2024 7th.
I'd be happy with a 7th
Damn happy with a 6th

So long, Willutz the Putz!

i expect compensation to be in the area of last pick in 7th of the draft

a player who wont make our PS team

He was 22nd in FG%, and that’s with guys who attempted at least 20 kicks.
No he wasn’t very good.

Hard to go with the unknown over a guy who has been a top 5 kicker for the last 7 years
Statistically he was top 5 only 1 time in 7 years, top 10 only 2 times. Kickers have been ridiculously great for awhile. Needing to be over 90% to be considered a top 5 kicker:
2016: 21st at 82.4% (5th was 91.7%)
2017: 13th at 86.1% (5th was 92.5%)
2018: 5th at 93.3%
2019: 7th at 88.9% (5th was 91.7%)
2020: 22nd at 82.1% (5th was 94.9%)
2021: IR (5th was 92.9%)
2022: 32nd at 74.2% (5th was 91.9%)

Lutz and Grupe are both in the top 32 kickers in the NFL. You’re only going to keep 1 so we kept the cheaper and younger guy and maybe get an asset in return.
Totally understandable.
Trading Lutz saves us $1.7mm in cap space

This is how you melt. Well done

He cost us multiple games not sad to see him go. If he makes a couple of kicks last year we also win the division and the narrative around our team completely changes
Posted on 8/29/23 at 11:51 am to Proximo
Yeah. If we cut a kicker today, we get nothing. If we get a 7th for him, that's better than nothing.
Look, if someone thinks we traded the wrong guy, that's fine, but saying we should have cut one instead of trading one is beyond stupid.

Also Nick Underhill seemed to believe Lutz was ahead by a sizeable margin through camp.
They were all over his nuts last training camp as well, declaring him “back”. Game action said he was arguably one of the worst kickers in the league
Lutz is on the last year of his deal. It’s a no brainer to go with the cheaper guy who cannot be any worse than lutz last season.
Logic > emotion
Happy Lutz goes to a spot where he is needed, he will boom the ball in the thin air. We get a young guy who appears to be legit and we at least get something for Lutz. Everyone wins

We lose some leg distance but Lutz was struggling with consistency. Good move to save $.
I think it is a good decision.

well then maybe you should educate yourself on how the draft works
with this FO we will get much less than lutz is worth, thats a given

great so you think when we trade a player to another team, we get no draft picks for them, where did you learn that BS

because its loomis and allen, they have a long record of getting much less than players are worth in trades
