Triplett:

The Saints are signing WR Tanner McEvoy after he was released by the Seahawks, per source. WR is a very crowded position for the Saints, so he has his work cut out for him to make the roster. But perhaps they'll be attracted to McEvoy's special teams ability and versatility. The 6-6, 230-pounder began his career in 2016 as an undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin at safety. He has also played TE, RB and QB dating back to college.

This is confirmed, and I'm told it's a one-year deal for Tanner McEvoy. Saints needed a blocking wide receiver.

almost like we need to thin the WR herd out...

very small sample size but he's averaging 18 yards a reception during career.

The whole team will double as special teams aces soon.

I wanna see Peat as a gunner.

Wonder if they are going to try to PS stash him and convert him to a TE with his size.

Edit:
Didn't see your post TechDawg. Definitely seems like the type of thing Payton would do.

No one has said this yet, but he might get moved to TE, since we're thin there.

I like this signing. He can definitely help at TE as others have said, I think that’s where he played mostly at Seattle but I could be wrong.

Not mentioned yet but he was Wisconsin’s starting QB a few years back and played against LSU. He was pretty awful as a college quarterback.

I've probably lost my fricking mind but this guy has emergency qb written all over him. We may see Savage on the move soon.

if he's active roster then quite maybe... don't think that would be his number 1 purpose on roster though.

JT Barrett maybe stays on 53 but on inactive list.

This move points to what I've been thinking.

That is, they want to keep just two true TEs (Watson and Hill) on the 53-man roster to start the season. Rick Leonard will be the Strief-like extra blocker.

Pretty sure he threw a long arse TD in a playoff game for them.

Wasn't he the guy who got rocked for Wisconsin so hard that he tried to go to the wrong side of the line of scrimmage?

No, that was S Caputo against Alabama. Went to tackle Derrick Henry, got kneed in the head, and then tried to enter Bama's huddle

McEvoy was the one who had a 5.4 QBR against LSU in 2014

You know what? It probably makes as much sense to try and turn a 6-6 WR with real NFL experience into a TE as it does to reach for a real TE in the draft and hope they make the transition well.

EDIT: How's that Goeddert kid doing in the preseason?

see that's where it gets convoluted. Think Jimmmy Graham, always tried to argue he was a WR. McEvoy might be our wr that mimicks the TE in our system playing WR.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Hope it works!
