No, I think they probably thought Lorig was a better fit for the direction they're going.
If we wanted Jed, I'm sure he'd be here. If you're a FB, you take the work.

agree, and sometimes it's not cuz a guy is so bad or who you are getting is so much better... sometimes ya just need some fresh blood, enthusiasm, or a varied skillset.

Should have signed David Ducre.

What % of Martin's runs were lined up behind this guy? I'm assuming Payton is going a more traditional power I with the release of Sproles and a more straight forward, pound it out FB.

DAAAAMN YOOOOUUUUU GUUUUUUYYYYS!!!!!!!!
Hated losing Lorig (this is all from a huge Bucs fan) and he was a great run blocking and pass blocking FB Tedford even wanted to re-sign because of how well he blocked
He will significantly improve NoLa's running game the way he did for us
Great signing
hated to see him leave Tampa

About 85% of all the RBs and we even had back ups like rook Mike James who ran all over some teams (he had 150+ on Seattle) and he was a main fixture after week 3 when Nicks went down

But I feel like Payton hired this guy because he used to be a TE and can catch a ball.
He can catch sparingly especially in space will run over a MFer, but his main expertise is blocking and I don't care what PFF says he was a great blocker

Wtf is with all the Collins love? Dude killed so many drives with dropped passes or just not getting to the line of scrimmage. Sure PFF may rank Lorig beneath Collins but keep in mind that Lorig was on a sinking ship in Tampa Bay.

Appears most of the Buc fans in this thread are sad to see him go.
same with the reddit thread

We not sinkin no more
But sadly I agree when you took last years unproductive and unimaginative running game at a clip it was only successful out of certain formations (I Form) thanks to Lorig and Zuttah on the inside
You guys will like him he's a very good FB a lot better than PFF rates him

Looking at Pewter Report, they seem more upset to lose him than we are to lose Collins.

Thanks for the input. Glad to see a fan of the team be able to admit how good a guy is. Can't wait to see him in action.
I posted in our off-season thread how the Bucs are the only NFC team that has clearly gotten better in FA to this point.
While everyone else is adding and losing pieces or just losing pieces (Panthers), you guys haven't lost anything significant (Lorig is probably the biggest loss outside the Revis cut and that's at a low value position) yet managed to add quite a bit.
Edit:
Collins really only had one great year and has been declining each year since.

So what are the contract details for this signing?

he did convert a good bit of 3/4th downs when we needed. he had a couple drops that stuck out, but overall he played fine.
Issue is, "just fine" isn't great for a running game. He doesn't seal blockers the way other FBs like vonta leach does and him leading our RBs to certain holes were rare. He would have an occasional nice block, but most of the time our RBs were on their own imo.
In the few bucs games I've watched, Lorig played relatively well when I actually paid attention.

Well the Revis cut (after a trade wasn't reached, one to Pats was close dammit wanted an extra draft pick I didn't care if it was 3rd or 5th in this draft) was simply to free the cap space and restructure the team. The 1st 2 rounds of drafting under Schiano and MD were ok even great (Lavonte David) it was later rounds were you fill the roster and hopefully find gems that was absolutely atrocious.
Licht was hired as GM I think because Lovie knew and highly respected his scouting and team building abilities (early days of Bill Belichick's Pats staff and one of his most trusted scouts) and he is clearly aggressive which I love.
The bottom line on Revis was you really couldn't justify paying someone that amount in a defense that isn't really relying on a CB as much as other positions (RE, MLB, and FS) than a CB and majority of a CBs duties in a Tampa 2 are zone schemes anyway. The value isn't there for the best cover CB in 1 on 1 man scheme, so they presented that to Revis and asked him to restructure and asking Revis to restructure or take a pay cut is like scratching nails on a chalkboard to him I'm sure so he wanted no part of that, and having to put up with Schiano I don't blame him one bit.
Sorry I'll get off my soapbox now
I agree with you on all the signings Tampa has made and cutting Revis and a few other under performing players has allowed the freedom of signing a bunch more pieces and filling needs so now we are pretty much in the BPA range for the draft.
I have loved his plan so far we will see how well the team of Lovie & Licht uses picks to gain more picks (Tampa only has 5) and what picks they make.

That's why I downplayed his release as not that major.
He's a great player to be sure and still played relatively well in a misfit scheme last year, but cover 2 would have taken it to a more extreme and definitely would not have been worth $16m.
Y'all basically swapped a very good scheme fit number 1 corner at a much lower price for Revis. Great move. I think for what y'all do(or did?), Lorig may have been a bigger loss since he has yet to be replaced.
I'm just glad Atlanta's lack of depth, and quality along the lines, finally started to show. And Carolina is losing guys left and right.
This year it may be Saints vs. Bucs for the division.
