Kinda hard to take PFF seriously sometimes. They had Mathieu as like the number 1 or number 2 safety in the league last season, but in reality he was god awful for 90% of the season

Knew this was coming after we signed Charles Omenihu. Gonna miss ole Khalen. Won two Super Bowls with us.

"Bink" was a great teammate apparently. Really big dude but fast and athletic as hell. Great with the double teams/assists and forces a ton of pressure. He's the guy that'll allow our ends to get the sacks. Huge upside to him.

DT/Emergency LB wtf lol

I’m fine with this. We had to add some guys to take pressure off us going into the draft. Also like that both are relatively young. Still would like to see us add Rankins or maybe one more that way we’re not forced to take a DT.

I can still see us adding one, esp if Breese falls or maybe we go pass rusher at 29 and maybe another NT like Mazi Smith or Siaki Ika at 40.

Would love it if we signed A'Shawn Robinson or Poona Ford to go along with these two new additions. Draft Smith or Ika at 40 along with them and we'll be in good shape. Would love to see us address the safety position in free agency as well since this draft class isn't the strongest there.

The new duo was better than Tuttle and Street last season in less snaps. So there’s your rotational replacements for those guys. Melt was premature

Yep. I still think they’ll add another in FA and another at 29 or 40 but I don’t think they’re hamstrung now. I really like Saunders

Going to need much more than saunders and shepard.

Why didn't they go after jarran reed? 2 yrs 10 mil.

They signed two backup/rotational guys who will need to play starter snaps.

but Onyamata was clearly the best guy on that list in a down year.

Does anyone have any details about these 2 contracts?

I think the biggest issue you're going to find is that if we had this sort of cap room, signing a starter for more money and lesser depth for less money would have probably been a better allocation of resources. Kind of like a mini stars/scrubs scenario

This dude appears to have insane athleticism after seeing him do those backflips like an Olympian gymnast at 324 lbs. That hustle sack in the Super Bowl shows he can use his athleticism to make big plays in big games against athletic QBs. I hope he has a break out year here. He has the tools.

He supposedly played in every game in 2022, but in 2021, injury/injuries (?) limited him to just 7 games. Finers crossed he remains healthy. I really like the signing.

He played 200+ more snaps. It’s not a down year , it’s a downward trajectory for his career. It’s ok to give an honest, unbiased assessment.

TFL per run snap

Onyemata - 1 in every 58 snaps
Saunders - 1 in every 55 snaps
Shepherd - 1 in every 52 snaps

Pressures per pass snap

Onyemata - 1 in every 11 snaps
Shepherd - 1 in every 12 snaps
Saunders - 1 in every 16 snaps

Overall PFF Grade

Shepherd 68
Onyemata 64
Saunders 60

They obviously done at the position. They are filling rotational spots just like they’ve used the last few years

Big in weight, short but long arms, and ran almost a 5 flat, yessir, good pickup Saints!

Looks like stocky penetrating DT.

Still need a big badass but he's a good sign.

Onyemata 3 years, $35 mil, $24.5 mil guaranteed

Tuttle 3 years, $19.5 mil, $13 mil guaranteed

———-

Shepherd 3 years, $15 mil, $10.1 mil guaranteed

Saunders 3 years, $14.5 million, guarantees not out yet, assume ~$9-10 mil

Are you pleased we let go 38 million in guaranteed contracts and in return took on less than 20 mil guaranteed?

Just a little smile flo?

The Saints never fail to sign players before the draft so that we are not desperate. DA has always had a DT rotation, and these guys look like an upgrade over everyone we had behind Onyemata. We sign one more guy and draft one, and we are set.
