10 mil a year for Juwan Johnson????
It's probably much less in guarantees.

Again, especially on a team as cap-fricked as us, who already pays their other TEs a combined cap hit of $22.6M
Who else has a cap impact of $30M/year for TEs?
do you ever shut the frick up about things that are proven you continually don't fricking understand at all. you think you always understand our cap limitations then continue to get your arse dragged up and done poydras. its embarrassing. shut the frick up. you aren't the cap wizard. you are just continually pissed that the saints actually have plans and the ability to both remain competitive, fix the cap situations and move forward.

It certainly has not been fixed.

Dalton Schultz is making 12 million per year for example.
Well he’s a better TE
If you listed their top receiving yards by seasons
Schultz 808
Schultz 635
Schultz 615
Schultz 577
Johnson 548
Schuktz 532
Johnson 508
Receptions
Schultz 78
Schultz 63
Schultz 59
Schultz 57
Schultz 53
Johnson 50

I think it's the dead cap. Like Cam last year.
These are the extensions of mediocre/old players that become necessary with our cap strategy.
*ETA: this seems to indicate they plan on more big signings
No it's not
They gave him 21 mil more in guarantees. They could just ate the 7 mil or gave him another one yr deal.
This means they actually like the player.

Absolutely baffling decisions from the FO this year

Proven?

No. We are still limited and we are very mid and far out of contention because of it.

Plans for what? Continuing to miss the playoffs?

Competitive for what? 2nd in the division?

Moore must be really high on JJs potential to do something like this, and not believe in drafting TEs high. No other explanation
They believe his best football is ahead of him, and that Moore's system can maximize him.
We will see I guess, I hope that is the case, because on paper this is baffling

quote:That is fine if he were good. He is below average at best. Take the dead money and move on. That does not go away, it just gets pushed down the road in the form of new bonus money and guaranteed salary.
Keep in mind he was going to count close to $7M against the cap in dead void charges this yr if we didn't extend him. So in terms of cap management this is favorable if you consider that as an offset

Contracts like this, continuing to kick money down the road for aging players, and that motherfricker Loomis still continues to smile and smack on that gum behind the podium.
Fire him and blow it up. Our playoff window is over (my 3rd offseason in a row saying that)

Makes him a top 10 TE in the league based on annual salary. That is about 10-15 spots too high.

Not true. Not for this signing. They could've just ate the 7 mil or spread it out on a 1 yr deal.
I mean did you see some of the contracts for tight ends this yr. Guys you've never heard of have gotten 7 mil.

I was on board when this was the talking point...last time.
He simply has not performed, and he's a one-way TE who has never hit 600 yards (and only 500 2x)

Clearly there is hopium driving this madness
