Good move. DA is still running things. This keeps 2 very good coaches on staff.

Are we the only team in the league with co-DC's? Has co-coordinators ever worked anywhere?

If DA is calling the plays on defense anyway, what does it really matter?

Dennis Allen is the Defensive Coordinator.
He's just trying to keep two good coaches on staff and giving them increased authority with game planning.
One of them will be a sole DC somewhere next year I would imagine.

Yup.
It helps their resume going forward and a top ten Def doesn't hurt it either.

Richard had 2-3 other DC interviews. Allows us to keep him, promote him, and maybe get two third round picks in the future.
Nielsen was the obvious choice cause of his success with the d line and his experience here. Also, Saints blocked the LSU job for him to stick around and be a future DC in the league. Would have been slap in the face to not promote him given the circumstances.
Allen will essentially be DC with a lot more responsibility elsewhere and hopefully Richard and Nielsen can work well together and keep up the success on their respective units.

Did not realize that Nielsen and Richard were teammates at USC.

Not a fan of sharing responsibility.
Give them different titles. Get creative and make up some bad arse title if needed. But have clear roles and responsibilities for each.
This sounds more like appeasement to me, which is a sign of weak leadership.

Do you really think it doesn't work that way? They aren't doing the same job, it's just titles.

I guess we have our version of Malveto now

Seems like they are getting a title change and raise. We all know who’s running the D. I have no problem with this.

Yeah. This is already a red flag. Flame away OT. I think the Head Coach, Needs to Coach. Let the coordinators coordinate. Let the people you hire do their job. This meddling is just weak leadership. If you dont have confidence in them. Why have them in the way or become problematic.
This is very Boomerish.
Im sure even that Female COach that applied for the Saints HC Position understood that.

Didn't Sean run the offense even though we had an OC?

It is no different than having a run game coordinator and a passing game coordinator.
Or a DC to run the front 7 and one to run the backfield.

It's going to be basically pgc/rgc. Teams do it all the time.
