Saints in traditional stats at half way mark

Total offense - 14th
Scoring offense - 15th
Total defense - 7th
Scoring defense - 8th
Defense still solidly top 10. Offense is top half now, and I think there's still some room for improvement.

we're a very inefficient team. need to win this week so we can stop the tit-for-tat w/l before the bye. 6-4 puts us in a really good spot for the last 7 games.

Agreed, findings ways to lose was a sign of a poorly coached team.
The past couple weeks, I found myself thinking "How are we gonna lose it now" to find ways to win.
Maybe we are turning the corner, but the offense is something that 100% needs to be addressed this offseason. Allen's defense has continued to play above what it is IMHO, we are not supposed to be 'this solid' with the pass rush being so weak.

I think we're a Derek carr injury away from 6-3. Still shoulda won, but we'd have won handily without that injury in GB

Our secondary is really good. Need foskey or turner to get healthy and better to put more pressure on qbs

Nah, we don't do that here.
All joking aside, the offense is so frustrating to watch. The redzone inefficiency is brought up a lot, but WTF is with the midfield breakdown. How many times are we going to punt from between the 45s. If this was a stat that was tracked, it seems like this team would be breaking records here.

Yep. I also like that they look like they’re adding to the Taysom plays with 99 motioning and trying to throw it to him even.
They need to put in one, Taysom fakes the run and passes per game. It will keep the db’s from crashing.

After seeing Dobbs scramble around on the falcons yesterday, that should be another element to worry about again next week.

we actually played pretty bad this past week. the bears were just determined to lose more than us.
allen is one of the top defensive coaches in the league right now, and has been for a while. just wish we could have some consistency on the other side of the ball.

Watched a 16 min highlite reel of the game.
Carr looked really good first half. Zip on the ball and finally a lot of sharp throws across the middle and got the ball out quick. Didn't see as much of either in the second half.
The D line plan didn't look good against the bears. Seemed he had a lot of time to throw.

Totally agree. The defense has been fortunate to face mainly terrible offenses……which is the main reason for the high rankings. Now I do think that if the pass rush improves…..this will be a completely different story. A decent to good pass rush will take this defense to another level. And for the love of all that is holy DA, start keeping a fricking spy on QBs that have ANY athleticism!
Offensively the play calling was still a little off yesterday. Definitely still better than at the beginning of the season, but it wasn’t smooth. Olave did look a little better, but he still had a pretty bad drop…..that will happen from time to time with anyone though. Carr was pretty damn efficient, and protected the ball. We even got some tight end looks in the game. The biggest gripe I have about yesterday is that PC STILL struggles calling plays to focus on the middle of the field when facing cover 2.
I haven’t re-watched the game, so I could be mistaken……but it seemed that most of the throws to the middle of the field were late in Carr’s progression, when (IMO) it should have been an area of focus. Like I said, I could be mistaken in my memory.

i wonder if allen just decides to shut it down/get's conservative too early? the man has a LOT of confidence in our defense.
i hope jordan retires after this year. cam is an all-time saint, but he's done. maybe he could be a 3rd down 3tech, but his days as a de look to be over. i know allen like our DEs to bigger than normal, but they still have to bring a pass rush threat off the edge for it to work. turner and/or foskey need to get healthy and contribute. i hope one of them can start opposite granderson next year, or this year if they can up their games.

Unfortunately, our schedule has to be at the bottom of the league.
There's definitely room for improvement. Honestly, we need the OL to continue to get better and the QB to continue to get better. That's really it.

it's disappointing, but the year isn't over. at least we're complaining about only being 5-4 and not all giddy about it.
if our oline can continue to improve towards what we all thought they could be and foskey or turner can provide some type of pass rush threat on third down, we can still make some noise this year.

The defense wasn’t great yesterday. We got lucky we were able to take advantage of a turnover prone UDFA rookie QB from sheepherder community college.
Kmet abused us yesterday and we gave up almost 5 yards per carry.
Also, we have no pass rush. None. Non existent. No pass rusher to be found. Granderson is the only player we have on the defensive line. I love Cam, but he’s limited at this point.

Bears had 86 total yards and 4 TOs in the 2nd half. 1st half was bad, but Allen adjusted
