Cap Roll Over
On the how much can be carried question, the answer is definitely all of the unused. If the 9ers carrying over 50+ mil this year doesn't convince people of that, not sure what will.

Loomis prepared to spend 80 million now

They probably ask themselves that as well

We also still have space next year. Guess we're out of cap hell

how many of the 55 active roster and practice squad are signed?
could just mean that's what is left to fill the roster.

69 currently on the roster. Only the top 51 count towards the cap. We will of course add draft picks who will count more than the bottom few guys of the 51, estimated somewhere between $7-10M of additional cost

I think we'd do better spending every pick in the trenches and get the QB after the oline is in place. A rookie QB with a bad oline could be a career killer

Kicking the can down the road

They have to sign the draft class. That's probably 10-12M (guestimate)

If my understanding is correct carr can come off post June 1 next year and save a massive chunk of money. So the war chest isn’t near as bleak as has been reported on this board.
Instead of it costing you 60M to cut him, it would cost you about 20 after June 1...but the other 40M would be due the following year.

Taysom cut post June 1st also gives us another 10 mil.

Nothing confusing that $30M is borrowed from future years and guarantees payment for players who may or more likely not deserving in future years.

quote:Reid still isn't on the books (nor a few others but they will barely take up any cap), but Young is on the Cap for less than I thought (basically gave him the minimum base they could, added to his old and new signing bonuses), but Underhill might be correct after all.
We’re about to have a cap off
Mathieu's cap hit also lowered more than I thought it would (but may have missed if it was said how much it would lower).
Currently 32.5 mil under and I'm guessing Reid's base plus bonus will take 2.5 mil, and the others not on the cap will take up negligible amounts (barely replacing the bottom of the top 51).
Edit:
On the "bad news" side, we are now over the cap for next year already, which was expected once Young and Reid started to be figured in, but looking ahead at adjustments we can still easily get 50 mil or more under.
Reid and future big signings not counting, but we can be 73 mil under the cap with only 7 restructures next year.

I hear ya, and I agree that the oline is where we need to build, but I don’t imagine us drafting this high next year. So do we jump for a QB now?

This is very strange indeed. There are no high dollar FA's left on the market.
Speaking of, what can we get for a middling QB with a super cheap contract?

Kicking the can down the road again. We will continue to be in salary cap hell every year as long as Loomis is in charge
