I agree (Fleener alone creates 3.2mil). Also add on possibilities of Strief, Banjo, Kikaha, & Stupar. None of those would surprise me.

Banjo and stupar are gone imho, better special team guys currently for less (Hardee, hill, etc). I assume lasco comes back?

Kikaha has value as a backup as it stands, he can pass rush in situations. Unless it's a clear upgrade you don't get much cutting him.

Strief saves a lot, not much dead.

The question is can Kikaha beat out Muhammad?

He already did beat out Muhammad. Better question is can Muhammad improve enough where they trust him to play defense, because they clearly didn't this year.

Plus we carried both plus Okafor last year so unless by some miracle we hit one in the draft or trade for one, I don't see any pass rushers in FA that will clearly replace him.

On Banjo he may well take a paycut to stay. Not sure anyone else is going to give him above vet minimum. I was surprised when we did it but they must have had another team sniffing around and he didn't exactly blow the doors off this year.

Fleener and Strief are going to be the ones to watch. I expect something to happen with those contracts.

I'm hoping we re-sign Okafor & also draft a DE (that's just me hoping though). Muhammad might pass him up with with another year. shite happens...we'll see I guess.

I actually hope Banjo restructures for league minimum. I don't think he'll make the final 53 with his current contract though.

it wasn't bad luck. It was poor diligence on the Saints part.

how do you not have a cardiologist screen a guy with heart problems before you give him $40mil dollars?

Heart problems are difficult to diagnose sometimes. People drop dead all the time without any previous warning signs.

Really was disappointing he had to basically retire. Would have been a big help this year.

Exactly, I didn't mention that because it was known by the team, I mean, WTF would rather have this dead money over Poe or Logan?!?!

Detroit screened him before they drafted him in the first round.

Hopefully we can at least split the dead monies owed

The fair solution seems to be to allow the Saints to pay him some portion of his contract but not have it count against the cap.

Contract Notes
Nick Fairley signed a four year, $28 million contract with the Saints. The contract contains $14 million in guarantees of which $9 million is fully guaranteed. The balance will become fully guaranteed two days after the 2017 Super Bowl. He can earn roster bonuses on the 5th day of the 2017-2019 league year and there are up to $2 million in incentives based on sacks.

Well now we know why they cut him the next day after the Super Bowl.

Yup. I edited into my first post just after I had read that. It would be another $5 mil they'd have to fight over if they didn't cut him today.

I realize that but He was flagged when he came into the league

And played 6 full years without it becoming an issue and has been monitored.

He was cleared and had no problems, so they signed him. Something new popped up 2 months later, they did their due diligence otherwise, so its their fault someone was medically cleared at the time and something new came up?
