Saints could have had Mayfield at less $ than Carr.

Funny how those ex Panther Qb's are thriving. Mayfield and Darnold. Even OC Joe Brady in Buffalo is better off without the Panthers.

So you’re saying we should sign Bryce Young or we should resign Andy Dalton?

I was calling for this, but it's whatever.

I actually wanted to just blow it up and suck enough to secure a top 2 pick. Daniels would be nice.

Gayle and Mickey are too stupid to make such a move.

Do y’all not remember Mayfield in Carolina? It’s not that he was a slam dunk - geez

His deal last year was only for $4M. We wouldn't have had to invest in him like Carr with a big deal.

The dream scenario was one year of Baker at $4M and then getting post-SF rehabbed Darnold for $10M with Kubiak, so the same system he was in last year.

We could have done so much with those cap savings. Cut so much dead weight like Cam Jordan (instead we had to extend him to make him fit into our terrible cap situation).

Mr. Hindsight over here

Nobody knew Baker and Darnold would play themselves into new contracts. And if we had let a proven performance go, people would revolt

You get one year of Baker on a discount in your scenario, that’s it

No I said we should have signed Baker last year in real time. No hindsight.

It was a better risk/reward scenario than giving Carr the bag.

If Baker didn't work out last year, then we try again this year. Darnold, Tannehill, Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, etc. All cheap options we could sign for year 2.

There are always guys like that around Carr's level we can test out each year. Nobody is arguing they'll all hit like Baker and become much better than Carr. But the flexibility lets us have more bites at the apple until we can get our cap cleaned up and think long-term.

Great. We could have made major dents in our cap situation and then moved ont this year to someone else. There were plenty of options.

Oddly enough, that’s one of the Saints issues lately. They’re just good enough to go 9-8 or 8-9 and end up with middle of the first round picks. Takes all the major game changers off the board most seasons. They’ve been in that zone for a while now. I never advocate for tanking a season, but it’s hard to get a franchise QB picking at 15-16 every year. Unless you completely bet your future on trading up, and that usually ends up backfiring because of all the damn busts. No secret that it’s hard to find a top 5-10 QB, and who knows, Daniel’s might be fine this year and then flop moving forward. Either way, they need to start taking a hard look at quarterbacks and trying to find one that can exceed the current level of play of Carr. The guy is alright, but he’s not going to go out and just win games for you. He requires a lot of help to do that.

ETA: None of that really matters with Dennis Allen as the Head Coach.....The guy just isn't the answer. Great defensive coach, but that's about it.

Many of us have been saying this for awhile. Mostly me

I've always thought more highly of Mayfield than Carr. Darnold is past his prime but so is Carr. They are all the same tier of QB.

In the same 4 year stretch 23'-26', we will have spent around $50 million more than the Bucs for our starting QB. All while wondering how the bucs have better WRs and O-line

Regardless though if you’re not winning anything meaningful are a few extra wins worth NOT being able to clear more from the books? That’s always been the question or at least it should’ve been.

The other one is a much younger Baker ACTUALLY a real find that will then lead your franchise moving forward. He had modest success early on then hit a wall with a bunch of different systems. Did the guy just need some time in the NFL (like Darnold seemingly)?

post-SF rehabbed Darnold for $10M with Kubiak,

Didn't realize he got that much. What did he do in SF that justified doubling his SF contract. Regardless, great deal for Darnold & and even better deal for Minn.
