I really want his job.

"Let's see they are looking at 3-4 DCs. There are two famous ones. Therefore the Saints are interested."

He could have said the Saints are "considering" any fricking DC who has ever worked in a 3-4 and he'd be right.

Good point.

The only thing I worry about with Crennel is that he's 65 years old. You wonder about burn-out at a certain age. Does a guy still have enough drive to excel at that age?

He's a good DC, but yeah he is getting up there.

And his version of the 3-4 is much more of a read and react type thing than an attacking Defense.

Eric Mangini

Not a likely candidate. Mangini went cry to the NFL about Belichick when he left the Patriots to become the HC of the Jets. Granted, what Belichick was doing was actually illegal, but would Payton want someone who may rat out the Saints for some bullshite down the road?

bounty part deaux!
But kidding, crennel has had a rough season, watching his own player suicide, and getting up there in age. I like him though, his team may give up points, but he creates top half defenses with good sack numbers/turnovers that goes with no offensive help whatsoever.

yeah crennell got a coaching gig b/c they played pretty well last year when he came in and i honestly didn't think they wanted to try and hire a coach last year. he was basically an interim guy

he was old when he got his first HC job

Is Mangini even interested in returning to the league?

And I do think that both Mangini and Crennel play a pretty passive style of 3-4. I would really prefer a more attacking Defense, similar to Wade Phillips in Houston or Bum Phillips/Todd Grantham 1-Gap.

Romeo will likely be interviewed more to meet Rooney Rule requirements, but he will never get a HC job again.
Signed Norv Turner and Wade Phillips.

I'd prefer Crennel. And age isn't a factor IMO. Monte kiffin is 72 and was just hired last week by the cowgirls and is one of the best defensive minds ever in the game.

My guess would be that it is pure speculation from Schefter
99% of what comes out his or Mortenson's mouth is pure speculation.

Neither is Keith Butler. He was paid bank last year so he would stay and not go after the Colts' DC spot. He will be Lebeau's replacement.
