Will history repeat itself?

The 2006 draft class (still the best draft class in franchise history) reached and won the Super Bowl in their 4th season in the system.
- Reggie Bush
- Roman Harper
- Jahri Evans
- Zach Strief
- Marques Colston

The 2017 draft class (potentially can become best draft class in franchise history) is currently in its 4th season in the system. They’ve been on the cusp of Super Sunday. Will they knock the door down and have a seat at the table this season?
- Marshon Lattimore
- Ryan Ramczyk
- Marcus Williams
- Alvin Kamara
- Alex Anzalone
- Trey Hendrickson

* Only included draft picks still with team at time of 4th season

Both very good draft classes, 2006 just had the luxury of a much younger Brees.

The best draft class in saints history is 1981.

George Rogers (could have been Lawrence Taylor)

Rickey Jackson
Hokie Gajan
Jim Wilkes
Hoby Brenner
Frank Warren

1986 was amazing as well.

Reuben Mayes
Dalton Hilliard
Jim Dombrowski
Barry Word
Gil Fennerty

4 NFL RBs, 3 of which were PB caliber.

100% agree. Hopefully momentum and adrenaline of a final push for Drew can carry us. I feel like my eyes are playing tricks on me because obviously Drew is protecting those ribs and some passes just don’t have the zip to get there and they flutter. And yet, other throws he’s making this late in the season I’m like, “Damn, that was a laser.” His arm looks lively much more at this point in season compared to recent seasons.

17 is better even if we don't win a SB. Brees was beginning his prime years in 06.

He threw one on the run late in the game across his body (to Trautman?) that had a ton of zip on it.

Drew’s arm is fine when he can set his feet and make a mechanically sound throw

The ‘17 class has won 4 straight division titles and they’ve all been major contributors. They are our best class no question.

He's gonna have to stop worrying about that come playoff time. His arm does look better and rested, you're correct, some throws he holds back to protect his ribs if he's about to be hit. He'll be doing it against the Panthers also and I don't blame him. Come playoff time, he's gonna have to let it all out.

Easy for me to say

By your logic godfather III is a better movie because it grossed more at the box office.

On sheer talent, that just isn’t the case. I don’t know your age, but perhaps you are not familiar with the names on that 81 list. If DB9 played on those teams back in 85-92, we would have multiple SBs.

Frank Warren and Jim Wilkes were devastating, not just good. Warren got sacks as a 34 end and 0 and not just a couple. He would be the best d lineman on our team today, if he were in his prime.

Rickey Jackson is arguably the best LB in history. Ignore the hoopla and look at the actual stats, and remember that he did not have the luxury of coming from the blind side. He also caused fumbles seemingly every game.

Hokie, before his injury was a guaranteed 4yds during a time when 8 man fronts were the norm. Then you add Hoby, who was a great blocker with great hands.

17 is a great class, but the 81 draft produced more talent. Had many of those players played in NYC or SF, they would have been 4-6x pro bowlers.

The league is far different now than it was then.

This is a typical post of people who think life was just harder for them when they were younger. The truth is guys are so much bigger, stronger, faster than they ever have been. It’s not an opinion it’s actual facts. Yes, Ricky Jackson imo is one of the most underrated players of all time. The rest of the guys you mentioned are just decent players playing for a perennial loser. Kamara is going to shatter pretty much every record we have, Lattimore is already the best corner the Saints have ever had (now, that isn’t saying much but the guy has elite level talent), Ram if he continues on his path will be HOF worthy and then you add guys like Williams, Hendrickson, anzelone and it’s just nonsens to even compare the two classes you mentioned. The only class remotely close to this 2017 class is the 06 class. This is coming from a guy who’s seen the 90, 00s, and now 10s.

Go read up in Frank Warren. Go watch some tape. You don’t know wtf you are talking about.

Hate to break it to you but the 2006 draft isn’t the best draft. It’s really not even close at this point. 2017 is arguably one of the best single team drafts in nfl history.

Not that I agree with the premise of either of yall's argument, but it's pretty silly to posit that people were stronger decades ago.

Nutrition, training, and medicine have advanced in such a way that it's not really fair to compare. Many of the teams from decades past, if put into a time machine, simply couldn't compete because they would last maybe a half a season in today's game.

It's not to say that they don't have the same potential genetically, they just didn't have the same tools.

Is there a better modern day draft than the 2017 Saints draft?
