I dont really like this deal.

Maybe they just see a drastic dropoff and think they can get an OT and WR at that spot. I don't know.
One bigtime affect of this is:
We are locked in to Jameis as QB next year, too. Maybe even the year after. (unless the plan was to draft one).

This was a pretty stupid trade. Unless some team wants two firsts to move up for a qb. Which I don’t trust any of them in the first.
If it’s to get Cross and and a receiver, I can see it. You only make this trade for hood value which the eagles just did

So the Saints trade their 1sr rounder next year which will likely be higher and in a draft with better QB talent, for an extra 1st this year and they don’t even know which players will be available? This is a dumbass move.

We gave up all that to move up 2 spots?
I’m lost

We gave away a second and third round pick. And even if it was because there is a guy they just have to have, they made the trade so early they can’t even be sure who will be on the board. This is a bad look.

“Rationale for the #Saints: This trade gives them three picks in the Top 50 and hopefully that 1 next year is a back-end.
Fine with it if I had Sean Payton as my head coach.
But this pick, with a 1st year head coach with a fair amount of question marks...tells me we gave up too much.

Would seem to me that what we gave up to Philly would be more enticing to a team in the top 10 in a trade up.
Probably in a vacuum but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and a lot of the teams in the top 10 have grumpy owners who don’t want to be in the top 10 anymore. That pick next year probably is the better asset, but it isn’t helping them win games or sell tickets in 2022 so not quite as eye catching

Picked up an extra 1st this year.
But it is a strange move.

Our division is a shite show. We should get to 10 wins pretty easily.

If we are drafting in mid to late 20's next year it's a genius move.

Yeah the simplest way I can put it is we gave up a 2nd and 3rd to convert next year's first into another first this year.
Way too much imo

We are using our first round pick next year, this year. It is costing us a second and a third to do it.

Just remove the 18 and 19 selections out the equation. It doesn’t really matter materially to the people the trade
Saints traded a future 1st, future 2nd, this years 3rd and 7th, for number 16 in this years draft and a 6th round pick
It does feel pretty steep, previous trades like this usually depend on the demand of the QBs left and happen during the draft, but given how early it is and unsure of what the ultimate plan is, it’s hard to pinpoint the value on the saints side.

So in essence, we traded a:
future 1st
future 2nd
this year's 3rd
for #16.
nope.
We added a pick in the teens of this draft but gave up a 1st in next draft, which at best will likely be around the same.
Then on top of that, we added a 2nd and a 3rd.
I'm truly confused.

Maybe, but that’s not likely.

we're using our 2023 first round pick a year early.
And gambling that we have a better record this year than we did last year

As with anything, it depends on what they do with the picks, who they choose, if it works out, if we are good this year, etc.
However:
1) We got worse this offseason, maybe significantly worse, so it seems strange to make an all in move
2) We locked ourselves in to Jameis Winston for the next 2-3 seasons. We don't really have a choice now.
3) We did this move so early, that we have no idea who will be available or what the other teams draft boards will remotely look like.
It may work out great, and there may be a really big method to the madness...but its super strange imo.
